Shouldn't one of those .zip patches be a tar.gz

The first patch file should read:

Zikula-1.2.0_Zikula-1.2.2-patch.zip

How do I apply the patch?
I downloaded the 1.2.1-to-1.2.2 patch and overlayed the files but the system still thinks it's running 1.2.1. Do I also have to download the full package to get upgrade.php and the install directory or can I use the ones that shipped with the 1.2.1 full package?

You need to run the upgrade.php for every single upgrade.

OK
So why isn't upgrade.php included in the patch load then? It seems counterintuitive to have to download the full package to install the patch.

Indeed
But take in account that this is an automated process and we missed to include the upgrade.php (and probably some files of the install folder too).

Also, a patch can be handled in an "advanced way", but I agree that the conventional path (always use the upgrade.php) needs to be friendly.

Thanks for the feedback sk8rs

Upgrade for 1.2.1 > 1.2.2 Patch?
"You need to run the upgrade.php for every single upgrade. "

But is it required for every single patch?

I did a simple file upload of the patch and when I go to Admin I see ver 1.2.2

And sk8rs_dad mentioned, the patch doesn't include any upgrade.php or install directory.

upgrade.php
I did the same thing damon did, and my site reads 1.2.2

Please confirm I do need to run the upgrade.php and also copy over the install folder.

thanks,

supa

At least one thing the upgrade does is upgrade the modules to the new versions, so if you don't run it, make sure you upgrade your modules. From what I can see that's it's primary function.

It also ensures that the database knows which version of the core it's running. The use of the upgrade.php is necessary for this.

FYI, I've updated the patches now to include the missing upgrade.php
