Suddenly getting "<br />" in my stories

I don't know what I did but suddenly when I create a story for my site I am getting "
" in my story when I edit them again. This ofcourse results in a lot of extra line breaks.
I am on PN 0.714 and never had this before. The only module I installed was Semantics recently but I am not sure whether this is related to the problem above. Does any body have a clue where I should start looking?
