Transfering hosts/urls?
 Top

  • hey all,

Currently, my web host is pretty bad, and I'd like to transfer my website to a new host. How would I go about doing this? I ask this because when I installed PostNuke on my first website, it asked me for registration information like the URL of my website and my pass and username for mysql, etc... So, how could I transfer my website from one host to another?

Right now, I am assuming that there are no better ways other than re-installing everything and re-configuring everything, in essence, starting from scracth... are there better ways of doing this?

This topic has been covered a lot so a search for 'site backup' would produce a lot of hits.

To backup a site you need a copy of the files and the database. The database can be backed up using phpmyadmin.

  • Depending on your current (old) host's control panel, many hosts will be able to easily transfer your site over to your new account. Just inquire with your new host about it.
  • 1. Backup your database

    2. Upload it on new server in ASCII format

    3. Install PostNuke with installer, for database use telnet commands
  • hmmm... Okay, so after I upload all of my files from my original website onto my new website... what do I do? Do I need to upload the install files that I originally deleted (because it said users could hack if it was not deleted.) Or do I just go into config.php and change the settings? A little help please.
  • once you've uploaded your HTML files, and your database (using myphpadmin) just edit your config.php with the right settings, then you should be fine, just go to your domain name.
