Scalability requirement: Community self-moderation  Bottom

  • One feature that is really needed in order to assure proper scalability is mass moderation by the community. I'm sure the underlying code is scalable, but what about the administrators who have to make sure the community maintains the quality of posts that they desire? At a certain point, you can't even keep tabs on your moderators because there are too many. See Slashdot's experience at http://slashdot.org/…com-mod.shtml#cm520.

To the best of my knowledge, this would require a couple of new modules:

    1) User Ratings - similar to Slashdot's concept of karma. A UserPoints module exists, but I don't know how good it is. It should be inspected, enhanced (or completely rebuilt), and added as an official PostNuke module.

    2) Moderator Points - a module that assigns available moderation points to users based on their UserPoints. Moderator points would allow non-moderators to moderate a limited number of posts. Core moderation logic would probably have to be changed to recognize points, and the actual assignment of points may be run more efficiently as a cron job.

For commercial applications it is imperative to maintain quality postings - the quality of visible posts on your site reflects on your reputation. These two modules would be incredible time-savers for system administrators.

I'm extremely interested in getting this feature. I am an experienced web developer and project manager, and would be more than willing to help out with the specifications, design or actual coding. Respond or e-mail me if this sounds feasible.
