How do i move zikula 1.2.8 to a new site?  Bottom

  • Ok i currently have a zikula site located at m46sg.frih.org well i've been having problems with getting 5.3 because of incompatibilities with certain scripts and such for other users. So i've switched hosting and now have a site at m46sg.co.cc and wanted to know how i could migrate my site over to that so that i can upgrade to zikula 1.3. So how do i migrate the site over?
  • Moving a Zikula 1.2x site is pretty easy.

    • Copy all the site directories/files to the new host.
    • Create a new empty database with the same name/user/password as the old site.
    • Do an export in phpMyAdmin and save as file.
    • Import that dump into the new empty database.
    • Fire up the site! icon_cool

You can run into problems if the server environment is greatly different on the new host, for instance if on host runs PHP as a module and the other as CGI. Usually any errors are pretty easy to fix though.

    Good Luck,

Before doing a whole lot of work, you might want to check with your hosting company and see if they will do a free migration from the old hosting site.

There are a LOT of hosting companies that preform migration services for free as part of the contract.

  • Well you guys mention these days after i've already installed and fired it up from a clean install(mostly because the previous site was technically dead anyway) the site is listed at m46sg.tk (same new host just a parked domain since .co.cc is blocked by many antivirus softwares that are enabled(and for good reason if you trace back to problems with that one). I still have a few bugs to work out in the current theme i'm writing and to wait for someone to find a solution to why 1.3 doesn't install properly before i upgrade to it ;)
