Zikula is great!  Bottom

  • Sorry if I post this here but I didn't find the right topic for what I am to write.
Recently a client asked me to build an e-commerce site using Zen-Cart.
At the beginning I tried to convince him to use zWebstore but there were two problems.
The first was he has a great number of products and since zWebstore is a commercial product it was too expensive.
I don't want to discuss the developer choice but the more products you have the more you pay.
The second was that there was not very much documentation about it.
Probably it's a good product and they can help you on developing the site, but who knows!
I was a bit disappointed to use Zen-Cart because I know that everything is very easy to do with Zikula.
In fact, after a couple of hours I understood that it would have been a nightmare.
The code is not separated from the graphics... there are hundreds of files... the admin interface is very bad...everything became a problem.
Even if there is a very good manual and a great forum I took 3 days to understand where to change the logo.
Ok, maybe I am a bit stupid, but it happens... icon_biggrin
Now that the site is at the end it looks fine, everything works and there are a few great plugins like one for importing and exporting products in csv format that are very confortable for working with it.
But believe me, when I went back here I started to breathe and I felt home again!

Thanks to all the crew that developed Zikula and PN for long years, in my opinion is REALLY THE BEST :)

It doesn't get said often enough: The work of the many official and unofficial contributors is deeply appreciated here! Thanks.

You should have contacted me through the zWebstore site. Chances are we would have been able to work something out and that I could have reassured you that it's a quality module and sent you the documentation.

Other than that, thanks for telling us that you appreciate our work here.

  • I suggested to my client to contact you before starting to build the site, but unfortunately he decided differently.
I am sure that zWebstore is a good module but he took the last decision...
  • Go Zikula! The best framework!
  • I'm just coming back to the forums after a year or so absence, but I can say that I had the same argument with R; the upshot is that while I still disagree with R's pricing methods, he IS willing to work with the customer for exceptional cases. IIRC, his reason for his pricing methods is the basic idea that the more products you have, the more customer service you're going to need.
