Any updates on when the 1.3 release will occur?
Will it be called 2.0?

It will be called Zikula 1.3.0.
The only thing holding up a beta2 release right now is I'd like to get News and EZComments working with the new hooks.

You are not alone.
I would start a new discussion, if I would be a native speaker, but my english is not good enough to be shure not to have the wrong sound. I don't want to disturbe the happyness about the upcomming new Zikula.

New hooks? Does this mean the old system is going to break with the 1.3 release? -

The old hook system will continue to work so long as the modules are Zikula 1.2 compatible. Modules refactored to Zikula 1.3 have to make use of the new hook framework.

I think 2.0 makes sense but it doesn't really bother me that it's 1.30. Drak has a valid concern that announcing "2.0" will draw attention when there really aren't modules or a "full package" to make it appealing.
Once that full package of modules is available, I would lobby very hard for some sort of "new major version" marketing effort to take advantage of it. -

I just started playing with 1.3 and it's very nice. I like that it turns up all the error reporting. This has fished out a bunch of mistakes in the code. (It's very nice when the software helps you write good code)
How hard is it going to be to refactor a module to 1.3 if it's 1.2.4 compatible? -

It is not really hard and consists almost only of some structural amendments and replacements.

Build 2218 of 1.3 has the cool dashboard thingy removed.
Is it coming back? Why is it gone? -

It's being excluded in the build process, although it's still there in GIT. This is because the dashboard is not complete and will not be included in 1.3.0 but instead in a future version of 1.3.x

Isn't it time for an official news about the state of Zikula 1.3? The last official news is from the April 2010 with the statement "We are reaching very near a public beta for Zikula 1.3.0 so now is a good time to give an update."
Do not get me wrong. It is no problem if you need more time, but it would be nice to know if the release will happen in some weeks or some months. Especially for modules developer this is a interesting question. -

Yes absolutely. We'll know exactly what's what by the end of the week I think so we can write something next week.
