How would I go about making my own theme? Or modifying colors, fonts, images (as in top banner), etc...
any tutorials, sites with help, would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

If you know anything about HTML then try AutoTheme which can be found at http://spidean.mckenzies.net/index.php
I don't know that much about HTML but I am working on a new theme now and it's going pretty good

You can also try out the MTmodular theme found at http://www.mtrad.com. It was written so that it is relatively easy to understand the parts of a theme and there's documentation included as well.
