    mGallery2 (trunk-r77)
    Gallery2 2.2.1

    I know the mGallery2 Module is not 'up to date' yet, but it still functions to some degree. I am trying to get one of my last 2 Sites moved from 0.7.6.2 to keep up with Zikula, and for this Site, Gallery2 integration is important. The other issue is a decent Web Links Module as the cModsWebLinks Module I am using with the 0.7.6.2 install knocks spots off any other Web Links Module that I can find (unless someone can recommend another?), but it's broken in Zk 1.2.x and no sign of the (intended?) upgrade yet. But with nearly 700 Links including screenshots and a lot of historical data (usage/popular/etc), any migration to another system is not a light matter! To be honest, this single Module WILL hold back upgrading to Zikula until a suitable alternative is found (preferably a working cModsWebLinks!) as it is THE most significant feature of the Site.

    Anyway, back to mGallery2:

    1. I can't get the Side Block to appear. Nix. Nada. No errors or any other pathololgy. Just not appearing at all. The Random Images Block appears just fine. Don't use any of the other mGallery2 Block(s).

    2. When Gallery2 is displayed by mGallery2, it appears ok, but all the text is minute (as in very very very small). It's all there, but barely legible. Pictures are fine.

    If I display Gallery2 using PostWrap (which incidentally seems to work fine apart from Autoresize), then the text is displayed correctly.

    I am guessing something to do with the Rendering/Theme System and the Module itself, but would not know where to start.

    Clues?
  • Hi, I will continue development of mGallery2 on thursday.
    What zikula theme are you using? Does the font size problem happen on other zk themes also?

    Regards,
    ph
  • Really pleased to hear that! If you wanted an extra hand for testing I'd be happy to try and help?

    I tracked down the cause of the issue from the Gallery2 Site. It's because of a CSS entry in the Gallery2/themes/(ThemeName)/theme.css in the #gallery Style Definition which sizes the font as 65%! Change that (I just left it blank), and everything seems to look right, though I haven't scoped it out in depth yet. Will do shortly.

    What I find curious is that in pn0.7.6.4 using mGallery2, the Font sizes do not resize, but in the test installation of Zk1.2.3 it does.

    Thanks for responding so quickly.

    Chris

  • Hi Chris:

    Could you modify the title to this thread and add "Web_links modules" to it? It would then be easier to track this later for users who are interested in this discussion. It would then be titled: " mGallery2 and Web_links modules " (Note that you can do this by clicking on the title and it will allow you to modify the title.)

    Hi PH:

    It is great that you will be updating the mGallery2 module. I have tried other galleries in Zikula and went back to Gallery2 as it is quite complete and has an extensive user support. Integrating it into Zikula would be great. I would also be interested in testing the module once you complete it.

    Chris:

    I agree with you. The web_links module is probably the best module of any other CMS. There have been recent discussions on the forums re: any updates (http://community.zikula.org/module-Forum-viewtopic-topic-57989.htm, http://support.zikula.de/module-CMS_Support_Forum-viewtopic-topic-30142.htm). Petzi-Juist (the developer) is working on an update.

    I use the web_links module quite extensively. One of my site has 2000 links (http://www.EarlyMusicNews.org) with Zikula 1.1.1 and I am refurbishing another Zikula 1.2.3 site and it will have over 800 links (http://www.FrenchAsASecondLanguage.org). It is great that Petzi-Juist (the web_links developer) has said that he is working on an update.

    Cheers Marc

  • Hello Marc, fair enough, there's Web Links content in here.

    I am not sure if we are talking about the same Web Links Module. The onle I use with 0.7.6.4 is the cModsWebLinks from Cmods-Dev, not the Web_Links Module available for download from the Zikula Site repository. Is that what you mean?
  • I am not sure now if it is the same module. Check out my site weblinks to see (http://www.EarlyMusicNews.org). If it is the same it was most likely reworked by the new module developer. All of my old PostNuke sites are now Zikula sites.

    Marc
  • No, it's not the same. The CmodsWebLinks Module provides a greater range of presentation/design options, in particular the ability to include imagea (thumbnail and enlarged). I still have two 0.7.6.4 Sites to migrate to Zikul which I am working on now.

    Hello Philipp, just bumping this topic to see if anything is happening with mgallery2. I keep checking SVN hoping. icon_wink

    I know how things go, but am hoping maybe you or the other listed devlopers

    * Johnny Birchett
    * Michael Bhola
    * John Fitzpatrick
    * Carsten Volmer
    * Mateo Tibaquira

    might have something done that they haven't committed to the Cozi.

  • I can pretty much Guarantee Johnny hasn't done anything, unless I'm confusing him with someone else, he's been gone from the community quite a while now.

  • @slartibardfast

    Maybe you can give a DB dump from you CmodsWeblinksmodule tables to me, so I can look for an import funktion.

  • Hello Petzi, I will arrange later today.

    To get a 1.2 & 1.3 friendly CmodsWeblinks would be so appreciated!
  • I've added some ticket about web_links and zk1.3 to the Cozi. AFAIS one of the main issues is that web_links is not using dbutil yet. The direct SQL DB calls give erros ATM.

    +1
  • I'd go so far as to say it was essential.

    However, it also has the potential to become something much more significant for managing a large library of Links, and is a significant component of the Web Site. My partner has a Web Site (her hobby) in which the Web Links service is probably THE most significant and important resource. It's called "The Horse Directory", and can be found here:

    http://horseandponycentre.org

    It's still running on 0.7.6.4 but the Site is as we speak in the process of being migrated to 1.2.3. However, as CmodsWebLinks does not work in 1.2.3 I am having to deploy a very clumsy workaround and that is basically to wrap the 0.7.6.4 Site (after stripping down) inside the 1.2.3 Site (using PostWrap), so that the Directory is still available until a suitable upgrade/alternative is found. I don't like it, but it seems to work enough to make me decide to go with it for the time being.

    It is important enough to have made me consider trying to program the Module myself. Though I reckon I could do it given time, alas it would take more effort than I am able to muster at the moment, and for the foreseeable future.

    I am gathering a few thoughts on functionality (a wish list if you like) to see if any crumbs get picked up by an enthusiastic developer and will air them shortly. One in particular is to be able to create images from within the Editor for Thumbnails/larger sizes by loading from disk for example, or even screen capturing from within the Editor.

    Also the ability to define custom Fields for inclusion in the detail display, and of course as many options as can be reasonably made for layout and presentation. More anon...
  • Web_Links 2.0 ist made from me for the basic use in Zikula. If you make your own templates with plugins for spezial things you need, it will be no problem to make it looks like CModsWeblinks.
