Old module, new Zikula?  Bottom

  • I have an old PN site on a server I am retiring. Moving the site to the new server, it has a problem logging in. It displays the old "logging you in, hang tight" message but then when it refreshes you aren't logged in. Rather than try and figure this out, I want to start moving towards upgrading it to modern Zikula.

The problem is that a core module is an old pnHTML based one. I think it's API compliant, but not at all "modern". What version of Zikula am I going to have to do the least work with to get this going? It could be a big job and I really hadn't planned on spending any time on this, so any spent is really too much. The new server is running PHP 5.2.4 and Mysql 5.0.5, if it matters.
  • Almost all old modules will do just fine as they are till Zikula 1.2.x. The first serious selective version jump will be 1.3.0, though - our road map.
    Greetings,
    Chris

  • Are you planning on using the module going forward? At some point it's going to break. My advice is to put the time in now to get it compliant. You will be glad you did as you end up with a much cleaner implementation (templates and pnRender are great). Also, there is much less coding required to use those, once you have your head around it. Of course it's all up to you as you know your needs and about of time you have available.
  • Yes. I'm already far enough along that I can see the old module does work under 1.2.3 (yea!). It's not templated, so that will give you an idea of it's vintage. I'm really trying to kill off the server it's on ASAP, so that's the real time deadline now. I'll upgrade it later.

    Thanks.
  • What module is it?
