[solved][news 2.5.1] can't post new stories by using IE7 or IE8  Bottom

  • If I try to add a news as a user with the right moderate it works fine in FireFox but in IE7 or IE8 I get only a preview and can not add the news finally. It happens on two different PC. Any ideas about the reason?

  • Thanks. You are right. The SVN has fixed the bug already.

  • Also for IE8 ? The ticket was mainly about IE7.

  • yes, the problem occurs in both. With the SVN-code I tested in IE8. Thats working fine now. Test with IE7 will made later.

  • Seems to be the same problem with IE6 & 7 while editing a story. Create a new story wokrs fine, edit a story will only show the preview.
  • The fix is already in the SVN for ie6 and 7. The edit and new templates have been adjusted. The templates use buttons and IE has problems with those. That is why a buttonfix has been applied for IE.

  • Ups... I used custom templates. So I have to change the templates. wallbash
  • My 2 cents: this fix might be worthy of 2.5.2 release. I was using IE 7 and it took some messing around and forum reading before I went to the SVN and pulled down the latest and fixed the problem.

It's one of those little bugs that add up to big frustration.

    Thanks for fixing it!
  • True, that is indeed a very annoying problem if you are using IE7/6. A bugfix release is a good idea. Will try to do that soon.

  • I'm seem to be having some issues with the Publish on News Index checkbox in both Firefox 3 and IE 7.

Here's what I just tested in Firefox 3:

    1. Display an article that is NOT published on the home page
    2. Edit that article by clicking on the Edit link
    3. The Publish on News Index is NOT checked
    4. Click SAVE
    5. Suddenly the article is back on the home page (oooops!)
    6. Go back to Display that article again
    7. The Publish on News Index is now checked
    8. Uncheck the Publish on News Index
    9. Click SAVE
    10. It's still on the home page (ooops!)
    11. Go in through Admin / 3rd Party / News
    12. In the News Article list, the article says it is on the Index Page
    13. Edit the article
    14. Uncheck
    15. click PUBLISH
    16. Shows as Not on Index page
    17. It is not on the home page (good!)

So it seems as though if you go to edit the article from the display then the Publish on News Index gets turned on regardless of whether you check it, but if you edit it from the admin panel it is okay.

I'm not sure when that started happening, in the past I've mostly been editing through the admin panel.

  • Do you have caching enabled?
And do you use Ajax javascript editing, or regular editing (switch in News admin settings)?
What permissions do you have when you did those (admin, ?) ?

The Ajax editing is different from the admin editing, so maybe there is some hickup in the Ajax editing.
    That should not happen indeed.

  • Sorry for the delay. Had to go and check, this is running on my DEV server right now.

Caching was disabled. Compile check was on. Force recompile was on. I had Ajax enabled but disabling still had the same problem.

Anything else you want me to try? I'm not desperate as I can always edit through the News admin anyway.
  • Now I know what you did and your settings I can try to reproduce it and get back on it. I hadn't encountered it yet and I did test the news article settings of course. But maybe I missed seomthing
