I'm very pleased to see that scored of modules have been updated to support the new gettext system, but I notice that not a single theme has been converted yet at all. From Zikula Core 1.3.0 there will be no support for defines at all so for those of you who have already migrated to Zikula 1.2, you should invest some time on converting your themes. It's a breeze and there are tools to largely automate the process (see the Wiki).
