ModuleStudio for mac OSX defunct?  Bottom

  • I've come to the point where I believe I need to write a module for Zikula. I have downloaded all the blank module files and example module files and while they provide plenty of documentation and are very thorough I thought it a good time to give ModuleStudio yet another chance.

    Here's the problem.
.4.3 for Mac x86 is from 2007 and when downloaded from ModuleStudio.de the file is corrupt and no program can salvage it... Further, the Linux release is up to .4.9 and in the forums there's talk of .5. Even further, in the forum there's chatter that .4.3 isn't compatible with .4.9 which in turn won't work with .5

So my problem is that on my OSX snow Leopard machine I can't get a valid download let alone a current release of the software everyone is pushing developers to use.

I hate to rag on modulestudio but man, these hurdles aren't doing it any favors...

    Anyone have any suggestions?

  • Module studio isn't an option until Guite can devote time to it. I think he's focused on advancing Zikula instead of module studio.

    Syncro Client
    Text Wrangler
    Captain FTP
Aptana (which I haven't actually tried yet)
  • What do you need a module to do ? Knowing that would make it easier to give a usefull suggestion.
  • Yeah, without module studio you're going to have to do it by hand. I do recommend a good IDE and debugger. Aptana is free, with PHP syntax checking and code completion. It's debugger is close to being good but much better than nothing. It includes an SVN client and is built on the Eclipse platform (as ModuleStudio is) so you can add other components that will help you. I keep thinking of seeing if there's a good WYSIWYG HTML editor for it; Aptana might include one FWIW.

I use Zend Studio 5.5. It's not free but it's debugger is still better than Zend Studio 7's, which is built on Eclipse. 5.5 wasn't eclipse, it was standalone.
  • I'm using bbedit for my Code editing stuff. It all depends how complex the module should be (including ObjectUtil, etc) and how well you know the module strutures icon_smile
If you have parallel's of vmfusion you could install a linux distribution and use modulestudio from there (although parallels now doesn't do what it's supposed to after snowleopard upgrade icon_frown ). I have been able to get that up and running, but to be honest I have not yet developed a module in modulestudio. It's on my wish/todolist.

  • Thanks for the suggestions...

I have aptana, parallels, bbedit, textWrangler etc... All fine tools... I was just excited that I may get to try a tool specifically designed for zikula, particularly with Kaffeeringe.de's glowing review

Alas, I may as well just build the darn thing by hand. :(

    Thanks again!

Oh- espaan, if you upgrade your parallels to 4.0 it will work under snow leopard as it should... I freaked out a bit when my 3.0 install stopped working after snow leopard...

  • I already have parallels 4 icon_frown
I did a HD upgrade, installed SL and used the migration assistent. Maybe something went wrong there. Probably a reinstall or something needed. Anyways, You can make a install with linux and use Mobilestudio there icon_smile

edit: did reinstall Parallels 4 and tried my earlier installed Ubuntu linux virtual machine (I just chose a distribution icon_wink no need to discuss that one, haha). Modulestudio starts up nicely there, so that might be an alternative as well.

i suggest netbeans PHP ide for developing on nixies and windows.
for windows nusphere phped is also very good for debuging..i use it a lot
