I'm trying to get away from E107 and use Zikula, which seems like a superior solution. I need a forum and PNphpbb came highly recommended. I have tracked down all the relevant posts and see your installer has had problems since, at least, August. There also appears to be a workaround by fixing the problem directly in the database so a fresh install can be used. Will/Did you post the instructions? -

I can't answer for slam, but I think the answer will be 'no'. There was a script which could import existing (PN)phpbb2 data into pnForum. But, from that point, pnForum and Dizkus silently altered a lot of datastructures, adapting it for PN and Zikula. So migrating back is a hell of a job to make a script for.shoshia

I couldn't find instructions either on that forum.ryandobbert

Make sure you have phpMyAdmin (or any other database-gui) available, and connect to your zikula database. Find the screen where you can manually execute custom SQL commands for this database (probably the 'SQL' tab on top of the screen), paste the code below, and hit 'Start'.
Make sure only one row got affected. This should have activated the module.Code
update zk_modules set pn_state = 3 where pn_name = 'PNphpBB2';

Thanks I will check the date stamp solution
meanwhile I have tried out the following just to make sure I was doing every thing right as I wanted to upgrade to PNphpBB2-1.2i-patch4-RC2.zip
Using 3 Zikula releases, 1.0.0, 1.0.2, 1.1.2
I tested new installations using PNphpBB2-1.2i.zip and unzipping PNphpBB2-1.2i-patch3-delta.zip over the top
in all 3 cases everything went smoothly and installed correctly
But to date I haven't successfully upgraded using PNphpBB2-1.2i-patch4-RC2.zip it either gives me a Blank Page or a SQL undefined syntax error (I think from memory)
I have tried out Dizkus while it installed easily and integrated nicely with Zikula it was throwing up SQL errors during operation of the forum in add new topics both in the admin section and in the user section, but still created the topic automatically.
I personally like pnphpbb2 and hopefully will work out how to fix the date stamp (when I have time)
Cheers for the info..

Seems that after the upgrade to Zikula 1.2.0 Dizkus also needs some fixes regarding dates/times displayed.

Chris

Is there a chance of a PNphpBB2 patch for this. It looks tacky going into the forums and the date is not showing. This is the last fix for me to take 1.2.0 live. -

I'm kind of a d*ck.. i know this. But phpbb2/3 or Zafino kicks (dizkus/dickiss) ass.
I just with it worked. Fatal error: Function name must be a string in ~/public_html/ircstorm/modules/PNphpBB2/install/install.php on line 203 I always have to go back the the PNphpBB2-1.2i .ver
Attempts to sidetrack users looking for solutions for their issues in favor of suggesting a different package is akin to flooding. Quite disrespectful - and they call me a d*ck.

PNphpBB2 is in no way Zafino, it is PNphpBB2 and nothing more. PNphpBB2 is the only way to go if you are using version 1.2.x of Zikula, and are not planning on upgrading to Zikula 1.3.x.
IMHO; the product that has been labeled Zafino is dead. There has never been an official release of anything that could resemble the product that they have called Zafino, and this has been going on for years; yes, literally years. I mean really, how long you say something is going into alpha, beta, and finally a release, and nothing ever materializes.
In a short while I guess we'll see just how extensive this problem is. I just wonder how many people will be stuck on 1.2.x of Zikula, simply because they are unwilling to lose their PNphpBB2 data.
New users, for a long time, should have been migraiting to Dizkus and opting out of installing PNphpBB2 when they first install Zikula. I guess time will tell.
BTW; PNphpBB2, as long as it's installed and working will continue to work on Zikula 1.2.x. In order to install PNphpBB2 you may need to install an older version of Zikula, install PNphpBB2, and then upgrade to the latest Zikula 1.2.x. -

I opted out of PNphpBB2 after many years of happy use with PNphpBB2-1.2i .ver because I just could not get the update patch to work (PNphpBB2-1.2i-patch4-RC2) not through lack of trying.
PNphpBB2-1.2i .ver was doing a great job with some minor issues which I was hoping the update patch would resolve.
I have now gone to the "pure" phpbb 3.0.8 and am very happy with it. Migration of topics was possible although time consuming and had issues with member login migration. I resolved this by giving member access to the old PNphpBB2 in a locked state (frozen in time) and not migrating anything. I set up the new phpbb 3.0.8 forum and got any members who wanted to register for a new account. I now use it as a stand alone forum and get it to appear as a wrapper within Zikula when needed.
It was a painful process but think it was worth it, I feel confident that phpbb will carry my forum into the future with less issues. I did give Dizkus a go it just did not give the flexibility I required. -

I'm running the latest PNphpBB2 with no problems but I started back in the Postnuke era and updated along the way. It is possible to get a new PNphpBB2 with the latest patches installed on Zikula 1.2.x but it's not as easy as it should be.
IMO; the Zikula team should have put effort into the phpBB3 and not Dizkus, but that just my 2 cents. I think Zikula is too far into Dizkus to make a reversal at this point. I think users that are going to be upgrading to Zikula 1.3.x will just have to bite the bullet and move to Dizkus. I'm guessing that there will be some that either hover around using 1.2.x until it dies, or move to another CMS that has more flexibility, support, and more opportunity for the non-tech savvy.
One of the other major problems moving to 1.3.x is; a LOT of themes will need major tweaking, and there is nothing in place that will help them. Moving from 1.2.x to 1.3.x is not going to be pretty for users that have no programming skills.
