Adding an "About Us" page  Bottom

  • Hi:
I know this is pretty basic, but what is the best way to create an "About Us" page and installing it on a menu? I would also like to create more pages like these for a menu. I have the News; Pages modules installed.

    Cheers

    Marc
  • I never used Pages, but it is supposed to be the module of choice for "static" pages. Create the page, view it and copy the URL starting at "index.php". Paste that into the URL field in your menu block and give the item a name.

And I was happy and smiled - and it came worse...
  • Thanks for the note. Actually, after playing around with various modules, I think I will do the same but with the FAQ module. I have categorized this section and will add the URL to the menu. I haven't finished it yet but the site is here: http://www.nbpo.net

Any critique of the site would also be welcomed.

    Cheers

  • Hmm, that redirects to a "Nota Bene Orchestra", is that right? The people around me would probably complain about all the "clutter", and some items are indeed redundant:

You have a login block on the left, but also an Account Panel link to the login screen on the top. It seems that only admin is posting news, so the Submit News link at the top may not be necessary either. And your teasers are pretty long, but classics lovers are probably more patient than the average internet user these days.

If it was me, I would probably take away the left blocks to give more space for content, put the menu block on top of the right blocks, but make it visible only for admins so that it does not disturb your visitors, replace the Download link with one to a gallery (if you have some nice photos) and move the Submit Article top link into the menu. Oh, and probably add the "About us" link to the top.

    But that's just me...

I would create a master template that has only one column. especially for extra wide modules like postcalendar and the admin. You could eliminate the left col altogether and move those links to your navbar.
  • Thanks for the notes. I have thrown the site together rather quickly as the previous hosting service was closing the site down ... just had approx. 24 hours to save the data and make the site accessible for public viewing.

Both of your comments make a lot of sense and I am still going to look around/mod a theme to suit the site better. Not sure if they need a calendar as the group only needs 5-6 dates. I will clean up the menu as, as both of you noted, it is very cluttered and some of the items are redundant.

Your comments are most appreciated and thanks with the help.

And I thought you would have been in a rush... biggrin So that's why you used Voodoodolly.

Hmm, in that case: The site may not be perfect yet, but it is up and running, so maybe you just leave it for a moment and browse through other themes and try to find something closer to what you may need, maybe go directly for a two-col theme, because your content really looks like it needs some space...

  • Thanks for the comments. I'll try to mod Voodoodolly to a 2 column theme and I will most likely change it for another theme once I catch my breath.

    Cheers
