zikula.org stuck in the dark ages  Bottom

  • The home page is stuck and makes it look like our community has been dead since February.
  • True enough, Craigh. What should we do about it?

  • Seems to me only two things are necessary: Update the download link to version 1.1.1, and update the copyright year at the bottom to 2009.
  • 1) The download link states that the latest version is 1.0.1 and links to the cluster F download page (http://code.zikula.org/core/downloads)

    2) The news isn't being automatically updated. Last news listed: Jan 30, actual last news: Apr 1, which is still pretty lame.

    3) Latest community posts aren't being updated

    4) Latest Extensions aren't being updated.

    5) The title picture is lame.

    6) The download "Quick Link" links to a page where there's a box of version 1.1, says the latest version is 1.0, links to the project page at code.zikula.org, which then links to a page which is a complete cluster F.

    7) the "What is Zikula" page (http://zikula.org/CMS/Zikula/) says that Zikula is a web application toolkit. I thought is was supposed to be a web application framework.

    8) The "See some of our customers" link and the "Case Studies" link and the "Site Showcase" link in the drop down nav all link to the same page. This is fine, but maybe remove redundant links on the same page and name them the same.

    9) The Press page (http://zikula.org/CMS/Press/) hasn't been updated in 3 years.

    10) The Demo (http://demo.zikula.org/) looks half done.
  • 11) One thing that has always irked me is misspellings and poor grammar. It doesn't come across as professional if these things are missing. It's one thing to use slang or maybe even get a little sloppy in the forum, but it's another thing when you are trying to represent a product. I realize that much of it is probably a translation issue and I totally understand that -- but somebody that is fluent in the posted language should probably be checking and editing the articles accordingly.

    12) The community is full of whiners.

LOL -- Just yankin' yer chain. I agree, something needs to be done.

I will be working on a DIY instructional on adding Google Maps to a popup (a follow-up to Craig's ultra-cool modalbox login tutorial). Still trying to decide whether it should be a news article, post in the forum or Wiki entry (or all of the above).

Although I was on the team at one time and then left (I won't get into the reasons why right now), I might be persuaded to rejoin. I wouldn't necessarily want to do anything technical, but maybe I could be tasked with upkeep of the homepage in some way. I can't promise I'd be available forever though.

  • I was noticing that just before we left for a birthday party. I know the image issue has been brought up multiple times in multiple areas (the forums, the e-mail list, and I'm pretty sure the Cozi tracker).

    I am NOT a whiner

    I'm a bitcher and a complainer.

I just assumed it was a caching issue. I was hoping someone could push a button and magically make it better icon_wink
  • I need one of those buttons.....and a hammer.
  • Good the flame is alive. I moved from passive HTML to postnuke in 2001 or so and kept thinking that it was the best CMS (for me?). Many troubles later, I still maintain my romantic view about postnuke and zikula. Once a Fortran buff, in last 20 years I have lost touch with coding, but want to regain it. So, don't go dormant, you will break my heart.

nothing is dormant, it just appears that way sometimes. icon_wink
  • I only have time for a quick check in, right now. But hopefully I can get some of this 'adjusted' this week.

  • Hi@all, the first problems on http://zikula.org should be solved now. icon_wink
    I fixed a few bugs .....
  • Just a thought regarding the download button (and maybe similar buttons with text that needs change), though it seems web developers love to do all that as image:

Why not use an empty button like in the top menu and then overlay text? That would allow for quick modification, maybe even use of variables, and it could also easily be translated one day, without the need to fire up Photoshop or Gimp for every typo or small change...

I usually replace all such buttons with empty ones, since they are much easier to modify.

Edit: Never mind, just discovered that Download too is overlayed with text. Well, in that case someone just forgot to modify some text...

And out of the chaos sounded a voice and spoke: "Be happy and smile, for it could have come worse."
And I was happy and smiled - and it came worse...

It is now an "empty" CSS-button and it is styled with CSS including overlayed text.
