PostCalendar Lives!  Bottom

  • Look - I am not trying to speak badly about other Calendar modules. For me, PostCalendar works the best so I made it work for me in the time that I had. I can't wait for TimeIt 2.0 - I needed this now. I'm sure each module has its strengths and weaknesses. Please take no offense and my continued development of PostCalendar.

Re: PostCalendar Sharing Levels: I don't know anything about this. I've never used that feature. Therefore, I'm not sure it works as expected.

  • Same here. Have an old .764 site with PC 4.0.3, and an upgrade (and import) to latest stable TimeIt did not function as expected (calendar block with overlib-hovering events was not there, and upcoming events-block was empty). So, my first install of 5.0.1 and one tweak made this work.

Now I first want to put this site on production, and later on move to TimeIt (since it is much better API compliant, and therefore better customizable for my sites needs). I do not need really complicated calendar tasks, only a nifty way of showing upcoming events.

Once this site is up and running, I would like to install trunk of TimeIt also, and will report tickets with issues I find. But at this moment, I am glad that Craigh shared his work, and I might just help others have a smooth upgrade to TimeIt also.

I think the general statement is more, why beat a dead horse that's drastically out of shape when there are growing horses that can be trained to do what the old work horse did. I'd only ask that you work with the TimeIt people to help them understand PC better so that the import can be better for those who need it. I gave up on PC back when Bahrat or whatever his name was, dropped it. It got picked up by Roger, I think it was, but it never seemed to get where it was going. Now TimeIt seems to be the Heir apparent (it can even import iCal now I see, gonna have to test that out when I put it on my personal/family sites) Do what needs to be done to get PC working for now, but I wouldn't think it'd be worth it to put a lot of man hours in it. THat's all I'm saying.

Please take no offense and my continued development of PostCalendar.

I have nothing against the continued development of postcalendar.
I think there are also some benefits for the continued development of postcalendar:
    • Competition is good for business.
    • It's motivation for me to work on TimeIt. (see 1)
    • More choice for the webmasters.

    PostCalendar sharing level public:
I've installed PostCalendar 5.0.1 and tested the sharing levels. The level public is similar to the level private but it is shown when a user filter is active.

  • I used Postcalender before - but it lacks 2 major drawbacks.
    1) If you have lots of entrys it brings performance really down.
    2) If the spambots know you you have much fun with spam entrys icon_frown

Thats why I changed to TimeIt - you can do a lot with it as you can see on y website www.rhein-sieg-freizeit.de

I use 2 Categories, 1 for the Town and the second for the kind of a venue.
Using the tabbedBlock Module on my startpage - blocks for showing the venues only - I have a really neat looking "Whats going on today" centerblock.

If you like to add an event - using the locations module saves you much time on entering the data of a location.

And if you have a look on my other website www.technobilder.de you'll find TimeIt is quite fast even with a large databse of events. Just go back to - hmm 2004 - and look up the data in the calender. Ok it's not looking perfect but it's only the old postcalender imported data. icon_smile

That's interesting as I have never had either of those issues. (knock wood)
