Newsletter 1.6 html woes  Bottom

  • Hello-

After just about filling my inbox up with dummy newsletters trying to get them right I have hit a wall...

I am running Zikula 1.0.3 with Newsletter 1.6 and for the life of me can't seem to get the HTML newsletter to work. When I preview the newsletter from the module interface it looks fantastic- a full HTML newsletter yet when I send it what arrives in my inbox is anything but a full HTML newsletter. I can't imagine gmail is adversely affecting the newsletter...

For instance in the template a tag like:

    Code

    <span class="title">Title here</span>

    appears as:

    Code

    <span>Title here</span>

In addition, the header of the template seems to be totally dropped and as such the stylesheet isn't called...

Does anyone have any experience with this module, I can't seem to find any documentation from InvalidResponse (Devin) as his site's gone and seemingly no longer active... I remember it working on PostNuke very well.

    Thanks,
    -Julian

  • Grrr...

So yeah, gmail, hotmail, yahoo and just about every other webmail service will murder any CSS you try and use unless it's inline CSS... ugh.

  • Hi!
I never had problems while testing (2 different webmail`s and Thunderbird and Outlook) in the 2.0 release there will be more layouts with inline CSS for maximum compatibility.
I`m always happy about bug and featurerequests @ the cozi-project.

    greets from austria

  • Thanks Michael, et al.

The bottom line is that for HTML email one must revert back to web coding a la 1995- tables and individual declarations. Inline CSS works though to be safe it's best to stay away from div' and basically everything else we've come to love...

Newsletter 1.6's HTML template looks great but as it's based on an external CSS stylesheet I can't imagine any major webmail service that will properly render it... Perhaps in the next release a note in the docs should include a link the above link from HalbrookTech or at least some paraphrased statement about the need to address web mail HTML in a different manner than standard HTML...

When I have a moment I'll post something in the Cozi feature request... thanks for the hard work fellas-Newsletter really is a key feature of Zikula...

  • @Michael: Thank you will have a look at it and integrate it into SVN. @Julian: Thank you hope you will make some request to integrate user wishes.
