If these sound like ign'rant newbie questions, then it's likely due to the source - Me. I've pretty much read myself blind on postnuke.org, and decided it's best to ask questions directly than hope I'll stumble on the right answers. Here's hoping someone out there's feeling helpful tonight:
I'm building LAvoice.org as a Topic-driven site, and using Categories and other blocks and modules almost as ancillary add-ons. http://www.lavoice.org
First: To reinforce the Topics I've chosen
(Cities, Culture, Drive, Environment, Media and Power) I'd like to set them up visually as channel-like navigational elements, similar to the top-nav levels on www.postnuke.org.
Can/should I add to my theme (now built in AutoTheme) an include call that drags only the "Topics Index" include (essentially nothing but links'n'buttons for the topics themselves) into the header block? If so, how? If not, what's the reason? (see center block here: http://server1.neosurge.com/~losangel/modu...ics&file=index )
Can I then modify the include - or add a modified include - for each topic, to give visual reinforcement - like a big "Media" graphic or label for the Media topic index?
Second: Do I understand correctly that "Categories" applies to types of content, e.g. stories, reviews, etc? If so, how do I add additional types of content to the Categories submenu?
Third - and most important - Is there a good primer online anywhere that lays out the best uses for Topics, Categories and Sections?
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.
Fumbling my way through it all,
.f.
