featurerich (v4b_) Addressbook development statuts  Bottom

  • hi

fairly new to zikula. Perhaps this is another Noob-question. I loook fro a featurerich adressbook or company-restaurant etc guide.

after some search i found out that we have:

    - v4b_Addressbook and the
    - pnAddressBook

which one runs in the zikula 1.0.1

pnAddressBook development was abandoned years ago...
The developer quitted the work ..

    read more here http://designperinch.de/software-1.html

He started to work on v4b_Addressbook for CMS Open Star - but if
you have a look for demos - you find nothing at all: duhhhhh - so
is there no adressbook out there that runs in zikula...

What if you need a module that makes possible your customer to announce their
restaurant of company... Which module to take...

    Any idas - any demos

well if you google - you find many demos for pnAddressBook

...if you ever go to Cape Town and South Africa you must visit the famous lighthouses. Cape Town - one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
  • One of the modules I'm working on is a city guide that sounds like what you're looking for. I'll have to clear off the dust on it. I believe I was like 60% done on it.

  • hello Cyber_wolf

    thank for the quick reply.

hmm - a city guide... perhaps it suites my needs. I need a simple pnAdressbook that can be used for various(!!) scenarios. That was the stength of the old pnAdressbook - according to my experiences... I used it years before...
Well - your city guide is probably very powerful. Hmmm - i need a very flexible thing like the old pnAdressbook.

okay meanwhile i found out - the developer of teh v4bAddressBook also quitted - well times changes very fast... BTW: Forget the title of the thread: there is no featurerich 4n-adressbook out there. Just google a little bit; You find nothing...-
no maintainer, no user that runs this adressbook - nothing at all: duhhhh!

Question: anybody still continuing the work on the old pnAdressbook - some maintainers out there!?

    cheers

Not quite true; I didn't quit, I just called quits on the full Openstar distro since all the extra cool architecture stuff that it offered is now in Zikula; it just doesn't make sense to maintain another full distro.

    I have a Zikula-ready version of v4bAddressBook almost ready ... I'll announce it once it's finished ...

    Greetings

  • hello Robert,

BTW: can i test it right now - is it possible to download and testrun it today.. icon_wink That would be great!

Updatae - since this is the one and only non-abandoned adressbook i am glad that you work on it.

it would be very bad if we have had no guestbook....

v4bAddressBook:This is our next-generation address book module.
Please note that it requires an installed v4blib and v4bCategories.

BTW: what does this mean? Please note that it requires an installed v4blib and v4bCategories. Hopefully we do not have to install a huge overhead of stuff for running the gb.

  • The v4b* (value for business) libraries are included in Zikula, hence Roberts quiting of the Openstar distro as the bulk of his work there is already incorporated.

ahhhh - now i understand .... Hopefully the Addressbook will be released soon.
The old version (pnaddressbook) was nice - but AFAIK no one gives support. The developer runs a forum - but nothing happens - well it seems to be a very poor story. Good things are not maintained....

    hope we see better times...
