Modules du jour...  Bottom

  • All,

I'm in the early stages of figuring out a PN764 to Zik1.0 upgrade, and looking at the third party modules in use on the site. Some of the ones I've been using happily for a few years appear to be alive and kicking, whilst others appear to be dead in the water. What I'd like to do is see which is now deprecated in the eyes of the community as a whole, and what'd be a good replacement for those.

They are, in roughly descending order of importance :-

    - PNphpBB2 - No, don't even start... pnForum does somethings I like and others I seriously dislike. Besides, it works fine in Zik, and the phpBB3-based Zafenio is happening.
    - ContentExpress - A biggie for me, for both pages and menus. It's dead, and it won't even install into Zik. In use for menus, as well as pages.
    - PhotoShare - Mediashare's the obvious route.
    - PostCalendar - Seems to work, but it wouldn't be the end of the world to re-start if there's something better with no migration path.
    - FormExpress - Long since dead, not even tried it with Zik, happy to move. I'm only using mailed forms at the mo, but secure DB-based would be a HUGE benefit for me.
    - pmBox - Seems to work fine, but I'm not necessarily wedded to it. I forget why I moved from the standard PM module - PNphpBB integration, p'raps?
    - pn_zClassifieds - Installs and activates, but looks like it's not going to play.

So - your thoughts and suggestions, please?

The real biggie is going to be the replacement for ContentExpress - I've played with Pagesetter in the past, but never got very far. However, I've not had a real incentive...

  • - PNphpBB2 - If you like the pnphpbb setup, stick with it. slam & co. are working on a phpbb3 conversion right now.
    - ContentExpress - Dunno.
    - PhotoShare - Dunno.
    - PostCalendar - crpCalendar is VERY cool. Try it out.
    - FormExpress - I'm pretty sure fomicula allows custom forms.
    - pmBox - Dunno.
    - pn_zClassifieds - There is a commercial version of pncommerce coming out soon. That may suit your needs. Not sure.
  • EventLiner possibly for a calendar.
    Mediashare or MediaAttach
pnMessags (not sure what pmbox is/was)

  • It seems as though Zafenio may be the new title for the pnphpbb3 release.

It doesn't appears to be available yet, but here is the Cozi project for it:

    http://code.zikula.org/zafenio
  • EventLiner and TimeIt offers a clean upgrade for the PostCalendar data...
pnMessages offers an upgrade to the pmBox data too...
PageMaster can be the solution to FormExpress, but it's almost beta right now...

Of the three, crpCalendar is head and shoulders ahead. TimeIt is PostCalendar, no more, no less. EventLiner didn't play nicely at all.

pnMessages offers an upgrade to the pmBox data too...

    Indeed. I like that.

FormExpress - I'm pretty sure fomicula allows custom forms.

It seems very nice at first prod, as a user, but the form definitions seem _horribly_ outdated.

So several problems solved, just major ones to go, the ones which don't work at all... Always the same, isn't it?

  • jami, the developer of crpCalendar is also going to be releasing a newer version that has advanced listing functions by list, day week and month as well. I have been using it on a development site for a bit and it is very cool and easy to manipulate. Plus, jami is very cool!

    Yes, Murphy says so.

If that's the version from the project's SVN trunk, then that's the one I've just tried - since the project download page is dead... v0.4.5 is what's being reported in the admin panel.

Seems that you're playing with old versions. Formicula works nice on Zikula 1.0, but have not DB support... PageMaster does but requires some "advanced manipulation" (just put the generated templates in the filesystem and there you go).

    You should see EventLiner again.
    Check: http://code.zikula.org/eventliner/browser/trunk
and click on the link at the bottom:
Download in other formats: *Zip Archive*

You should to the same to play with the *latest* development version
to see the recent stuff there icon_wink

Go to enter a new event, and I just saw a mess of dark blue all over the upper half of the centre block, with black text semi-hidden underneath it. Since crp looks great, I just can't be bothered, to be frank... Does that make me a bad person?

I'm working on the basis that I really don't want to muck about with betas or unreleased versions, but if it's all I can get, then it's all I can get.

Do you see anything wrong in the EventLiner's Add event form?
