X Prize: Blogging Module for Zikula  Bottom

Go to page [-1] 1 - 2:

  • IMHO, Pagesetter does already all this:

    - Already integrated to Mediashare
    - Already integrated with any Hooks Zikula can provide
    - Extensible
    - Extremely templatable.
    - Tag supported (just create a searchable field called keywords, use filters to seek out said words)

    And it's all this and more, since this is can be used to create all sorts of publications (not just Blogging)...

    What does it still need? Well, i'm certainly no fan of the publication type list (it would be awesome if it could be modified to look like the admin screens, with icons, instead of just a table) and a couple other little things (edit tag goes transparent, menus too, but those are no biggies and can be easily corrected using CSS).

    Plus it might be one of the most carefully documented modules (the manual is really well written and pretty extensive). I think the code could use just a more commenting (but that's just me) but other than that i have been able so far to make it to do almost anything i need it to do (and trust me, i have done a lot so far).

    "It doesn't work with Zikula so far, because of Topics", grab the module from elfisk.dk, use some editor (like Crimson Editor perhaps) and search and delete every bit of code that refers to topics... then it will work like a charm.

    Instead of making new modules, we should be revisiting existing ones and helping make them better. This is supposed to be the true spirit of Open Source.

  • Because I believe, a blogging module should be as easy to use for end users with no knowledge of web development. Take for example blogspot.com
  • Kenshino covers my main reason. Pagesetter is just to complicated for the average blogger. I know those that love pagestter will say it just needs a bit of perseverence but that highlights the problem. A blogging solution needs to be a simple pick-up and go.

    IMO Pagesetter tries to be too much to too many different people.

    If you read my original post in this thread my opinion is that we're not looking for one module to do everything a blog engine should do but put together a distribution that makes things easy for the end user while still adding the variety of functionality that people look for.

  • Well, I like Pagesetter a little bit... and squidjam has a point [I could easily set-up a blogging system with PS, but I feel no urge], but I'm with Kenshino and markwest here, too complicated for a novice user.
    On the other hand, if you're looking for a blog solution, why PN? There's Wordpress, nucleuscms, blogger etc...

    You make it sound negative... it's not trying, it's doing different things for different people. I've been using PN as "framework" a long time, install an installation, throw out everything [admin_Messages, submit_news, news, sections, (add)Story, etc...], I keep some hooks and there we go, isn't that the idea?

    I totally agree on that part...

  • i'm not a fan of blog sites, so maybe i don't know what are the things needed but i believe that with

    * Zikula Core
    * News
    * EZComments
    * Ratings
    * scribite!
    * Recommend_Us or ShareThis!

    as base, plus optionally
    * Pages
    * modules from http://code.zikula.org/webservices
    * modules from http://code.zikula.org/flickr
    * locations or MyMap
    * crpCalendar
    * crpVideo
    * ItsNews
    * Polls

    could be done some good blog distribution. Not that these are the best modules out(and some of them needs bug-fixing and feature extension), but together can give that kind of *sense* of completeness, keeping content management separated and not centralized (which for someone is a too hard obstacle ?).

    otherwise use Content and all the modules that have a plugin for it.

    Because sometimes, on a CMS site, there needs to be a blog! Or multiple blogs for different users!

    Or use PN as a framework to emulate blogspot.com totally such that you can offer every user a blog maybe via the use of multisites + News and so on.

  • Florian Schießl aka quan has a 0.8 version of his pnWebLog module which appears to work ok on Zikula 1.O, it contains a guestbook, and favourite links and can easily have EZComments working. You can download it here

  • yes, used in on forul.be, with multisites....
    http://www.sofieverleye.be/index.php?module=WebLog&func=view&uid=41
    and
    http://www.forul.be/index.php?module=WebLog&func=view&uid=41
    is the same PN-installation...

    edit: Kenshino, that's what you're refering at probably...
