Stats module doesn't count linux OS  Top

  • With the 20080416 snapshot, (and one before but I don't which) I noticed that the statistic modules doesn't count linux visit.

I read statistic module is going to be a step-child in next version. But I just want to indicate this problem.

(Maybe the problem is only coming from my installation)
  • Every "real" statistic software is better than the stats modules. A good system should evaluate the data the webserver already logs and not start their own database. The German Postnuke Foundation recommends external software like Webalizer or eTracker for access statistics.

  • Which linux distro/browser are you using? If possible your best bet would be to find the useragent, you can just visit a site like THIS and get some more information. I'll have look at the stats module in the snapshot and see if I can integrate some code for better browser detection
  • Firstly are you sure it "isn't counting". The stats module will exclude all hits made by admin users regardless of platform or browser. So if your logged in to your admin account logout then check again.

Secondly make sure the sniffer module is installed as this is required for the stats module. The stats module relies on the sniffer module to identify browser and platform info.

A quick way of checking the user agent is via the admin interface of the sniffer module (index.php?module=Sniffer&type=admin). This will give you the info that the stats module is using when counting hits for your own system.

  • Thanx Mark and PeteBest

Sniffer is active and detect my configuration
    (User Agent) : mozilla/5.0 (x11; u; linux i686; fr; rv:1.8.1.14) gecko/20080418 ubuntu/7.10 (gutsy) firefox/2.0.0.14

It reconize my navigator as firefox or opera if I used it (sum of navigators=sum of visits but the sum of OS isn't equal due to a 0 visit in linux bar not reporting in other OS bar).
