I'm in charge of the official page of the Colegio de PediatrÃa de San Luis Potosà (www.colegiodepediatria.com). I already searched with google, read the manual and the Wiki, but I can't solve this basic problem:
The site is going to have two type of users (along adminstrators): members and normalusers. I need that some stories could be read by everybody, and some only by members. I already tried several options, without success:
Normal Stories::Category Members:: None (from http://bjorsq.net/pnHelp/forums.examples.html)
Normal Stories:: :Members: None (from http://dux.sunsite.dk/pn/pn/html/pnGuide/perms-newbies.html)
Normal Stories::Category Members::31 None (I get the 31 from cat_id in phpMyAdmin)
Others have suggest me to use topic instead of category for filtering, but I don't see where I can set the topic of each story (I'm using PN 0.8)

From my understanding, Topic is only in .8 for backwards compatibility. It should not be used in the future.
Categories work the same, however, you have to use the category module to create News specific categories and change the category registry to use those categories.
You should be able to setup up permissions to read News stories by category after you have set them up.
News uses the Global categories by default, unless you change it in the registry.

Unfortunately, at the moment permissions does not work with categories in this fashion. The powers that be are aware of this..
