Capcha for User Registration PN 0.7.6.x  Bottom

  • Hi

Who can point me to a module or hack that integrates a capcha check on PN versions 0.7.6.x ?

    Thanks in advance
  • i'd suggest to simply use an individual 'spamprotect question' in .764 - far better and more effective then any captcha
    admin.php?module=User&op=getRegConfig

  • I concur - I have little problems with spammy registrations - lots of attempts, but none seem to register.

The only problem I have is that many will attempt to register with a dummy email - registration works, but they can't login as their email is sent to their email. When a get a mail server response that the email is invalid, I just cull that account.

.8 fixes this to some degree - by having registration be in activated / inactivated mode.

  • @uheweb: Did you activate the spam protection question?

  • Yes icon_smile hence, why I concur...it works for me.

The dummy email problem is actual humans trying to quick register and using fake emails - nothing to do with spambots. A few minutes later, I usually see another registration with a similar name and good email.
  • No longer working. I'm getting hundreds of registrations a month that are fake and full of spam. I change the spam question on a weekly basis...no go. I've banned IP's, but they're coming from all over.

Luckily, they don't seem to do anything after registration - only a couple have posted to parts of the site.

The emails are good - emailing password is set.

Does Akismet or Bad Behavior block the initial registration?

Anyone using a captcha of some kind on their 1.2.x Zikula site?

I keep in touch with the userbase often via emails, and with hundreds and nearing thousands of fake registrations, just the email management is becoming prohibitive.
  • As you allow valid email adresses only, your mail server setup needs some tweaking if you do not want to bothered with "address does not exist" mails to your Zikula admin. One solution is blacklisting those answers with a text filter pattern, another one would be to filter them out with your spam filter.
    Greetings,

What I would love for the future is a validity check for email adresses given at registration and changes, which instantly checks and notifies the visitor, without bothering the admin, e.g. via the CCheckMail php function.

    Greetings,
    Chris
