Hello all,
I have a site where I've turned off new User registration so only I can create their User account. I screen them first and then I create their User account for them. I ask through email what username they want to use and I set their password.
However, I have a particular User who likes to change his password (which I set as "editable" for but can't for the life of me remember where that setting is now in order to turn it off - LOL).
Anyway. This one User always seems to get locked out after a particular time. But whenever I reset his password for him he can get back in. But then he goes and changes it again and cannot get in once again. I think he's senile. LOL.
Would PostNuke have a problem with a User registered by me changing their password? Could that be the problem?
He is the only person who has a problem with the login process and so I've asked him many times if he might be doing something wrong. He insists he's not. I have no idea either way.
The User Permissions are set to "Add". I checked the password adding permissions and access is granted to this particular user.
How do I turn off the editing password function for Users without using Permissions? I know that there's an alternative but I can't remember where the hell it is. LOL!!
Thanks for your help.

Why does he not just use the Lost Password Feature?

Change his email to yours and test it. There is no option to lock in passwords, which I know about, or recall. If it really doesnt work, post back. Do not forget to change his email back. You make your own call about privacy though..
Really a surcharge of $5 per incident usually fixes these kind of errors... :D

Good idea I'll try that I guess. I told him to leave his password alone. I chose a good secure one and so we'll see what happens.
I don't understand what you mean about the $5 surcharge. You mean charge him $5 for the incident? The site is free.

Oh, is the recover password get trapped in his spam box? Also check the email address for errors? Also make sure the email contains no foreign characters.

It was a joke about the $5...
Yeah, that's what I thought. LOL. Believe me though, the thought did cross my mind. He's a really nice guy too though. So that helps.
I'm now pretty well convinced that it was something on his part. So far so good when I told him not to change his password. We shall see.
Thanks for the feedback. As far as the new password system goes it doesn't work for me either. Any ideas? All the emails are legit etc. I KNOW mine is. LOL.
Thanks

Your user might be battling with an IE7 'feature'. Haven't got IE at hand here at the moment to test but the issue I ran into with a user is the following.
- user logs in for the first time and accepts IE's request to store that password
- users passwords is changed
- user logs in again and IE offers to change the stored password
- user accepts
result: password is not actually replaced by IE7
solution: after password change twice: login, manually enter password, and accept IE's offer to store password
