Postnuke Video Module Needed  Bottom

Go to page 1 - 2 - 3 [+1]:

  • I think I speak for all Postnuke users when I say, We need a FLV video module for postnuke. icon_lol Well at least I do.

Without having to build this in Pagesetter, has anyone come across a module similar to this? Mediashare does not appear to have a FLV API so it does not work for FLV files.

This module looks perfect (From what I can see - But for PHP-Nuke):

  • With Pagesetter you can use 'any upload' if the php.ini is not too restricted on large files [mostly that is 2Mb].

If you mean a conversion tool for eg. wmv/avi --> flv, mostly that is not even supported on a shared hosting. A few do...

I personally do not need the conversion tool. I encode manually and FTP up the FLV videos. What I am looking for is a way to have the videos searchable and displayed in various orders (By date, alphabetically, Latest, Etc.) Additionally I would like to have some meta data so the search engines can pick them up. I would be fine with manually creating the thumbnails, I just want a user friendly interface for the public. Has anyone successfully done this with Pagesetter?

I am currently doing this with XML files but this is way too time consuming.

    XML example of current solution:

  • Shouldn't Mediashare be able to handle videos?

  • And Pagesetter is also a nice solution:

I also encoded the videos manually. Server-side solutions where expensive IIRC. The upload is also via FTP.

Yes, but Mediashare has no API for flv. SWF files work, though.

  • There is a plugin-system in Mediashare and it shouldn't be too complicated to implement a FLV solution.

Well I have spent about 6 hours testing Pagesetter and here is what I have found:

    - Images and Image URLs require photoshare to be installed.
    - Flash (swf) requires that Mediashare be installed. (No Flv API available out of the box)

So without hacking code I am back to where I started. There does not appear to be a solution utilizing any of Jørn Wildt modules to display Flv files out of the box.

So I figure there are 3 solutions to this

    1. Build a module from scratch. (Not the option I was hoping for.)
    2. Build a API for media share. (Seems to be the least time consuming solution)
    3. Convert the free PHP-Nuke Flv streaming solution that I found at http://.steezmatic-designs.com to Postnuke. (This is back to my original comment that we need a video module for Postnuke)

So with that said I will attempt to build an API for Mediashare tonight. If this does not pan out I will have to find a programmer to pay to build a postnuke video module. Which of course I would make available to the Postnuke community.

Thank you for all of your input and feed back.

When I first checked on this I did not see any files available for download yet. However I stumbled back across the NOC site and saw you had version 0.1.2 listed. I quickly loaded up a PostNuke 0.800 test site and uploaded your module. I know you said that it does not have an upload feature yet, but it appears that it does? However it gives me a Video invalid type error message. Maybe this is what you are talking about. So far from what I can tell this looks like it is going to be perfect for what I need.

So the questions I have are:

Is the upload interface suppose to work on this version or not?
Will there be a provision for batch uploading in the future?
What can I do to help?

I have a ton of videos to post and I really do not want to continue to do it with XML files like I am now. So I am a bit excited about your module.

And for the record PostNuke 0.800 looks awesome! icon_biggrin

upload feature should already work if upload path exist and is 777 chmodded (look at module settings for path and filesize limit). "Video invalid type error message" means that file isn't a "video/x-flv" (eq not an flv). have you tried to upload an swf ?

What can I do to help?

test it and post bugs, support, request in noc.postnuke.com/crpvideo Tracker, where i read more frequently.
keep in mind i always start modules to provide a solution for my *needs*, and maybe i don't think about other feature. Surely next step (if everything now works) will be a block (or two) and a user group restricted permission for upload.

    nope and nope

You can easily use Pagesetter for FLV videos, but you will have to create a template yourself that includes an FLV viewer, which is not difficult at all.

I have a real estate site that uses Pagesetter with SWF videos of 360º Panoramas uploaded via the Pagesetter "any upload" field (not Mediashare) and displayed via a simple Pagesetter template.

Create a Pagesetter publication type with all the fields associated with the video that you require (Title, Creator, Description, etc) and include an "any upload" field type for your FLV video.

Pagesetter can automagically create some VERY basic templates for you for list view, full view, etc which can be used as a starting point. In your "full" template (personally I would create an additional template named "video"), you can include the HTML required for your FLV player using the field name of your "any upload" field for the path of the FLV file to be played.

Yes I looked at the Mediashare plugin system. I consider myself to be of average intelligence, but had a hard time trying to get this to work. I really want to spend more time on my content, not trying to figure out code. If I had the time and the patience this could be a possible solution.
