Hi all,
I have PN 0.7.6.2 hosted on Lycos UK whos support people are having a real problem answering my question about whether mod_rewrites are enabled on the apache server.
Currently when I add an .htaccess file to the root of my site it gives a internal server 500 error.
If I take all the contents out of the .htaccess file, its fine
I need to implement the .htaccess approach for short urls and to turn off registered_globals.
So my question is.......
If Lycos come back and say the mod_rewrites is turned off, is there any way I can implement short urls and to turn off registered_globals using my current config from Lycos?
Another quick point I don't understand.... I use .htaccess further down the directory structure to control access to some folders......why does this not cause the same error?
Many thanks for any suggestion!

mickyd: if Lycos have mod_rewrite turned off - you will unable to implement short urls
And why not all htaccess file cause 500 error? Because this error is generated when in htaccess you use method that your server does not support. For example mod_rewrite
