Ongoing SVN Problems Produced By Gforge  Bottom

  • Well, personally I need to administer 2 Gforge installations for other projects, and therefore really know why I hate this ugly insecure code- & ressource monster. Personally I also have no usage for Gforge when it comes to Postnuke. But I understand that people need a frontend with bug tracker. However, if it does not work, there will be no new code and no new bugs to report. icon_wink Seriously spoken, SVN simply needs to work always, which it does not here.

Since several months we experience inconsitencies, spam, outages and slowdowns. While Drak and the community donated a new server (which is great!), there is still no real solution. I therefore officially propose to abandon Gforge and swift to something more lite, fast and usable. Trac for example is well known, open source and used by many big projects, so it might be an alternative to explore. I am willing to contribute time and knowledge, and might be able to help with additional servers (if needed).

Hit me, hate me - I can stand that. But if we want to make $NewName successful, a working SVN is the bare bones of the project.

    Greetings,
    Chris

  • The SC are already considering alternative options for GForge, such as Trac, for the PostNuke project, but moving away from GForge where there are literally hundreds of PostNuke projects hosted would be no small task at all. Unfortunately, it's not so simple as just flicking a swtich (and neither is solving the problems we have with GForge currently, but in the short term solving our GForge problems requires less effort and will provide a quicker solution than moving wholesale to a new system)

  • Due to a MASSIVE amount of stupidity on my part... I have discovered that the only copies of a module I developed are now resting solely in the possession of the NOC. Which is dead. Which is making me cry.

Is there any chance I could get a hold of those files?
pnComic is the module in question... help if you can... I feel like a moron.

I think we should all breathe a collective sigh of relief that I got here in time...

  • Are we talking files in the file release system or in source control? Regardless, we will get the NOC back online eventually, the data is not lost.

  • I did the same thing randomblink, you just have to try it every now and then as occasionally the NOC connection works. I just kept my SVN client open and tried a checkout from time to time and it eventally opened up for long enough for me to get my modules... and a few others I needed... working on pnWikka ATM, anyone got one I could get?.
