User Submitted Profiles for Gaming  Bottom

  • I have searched the forums and found several ppl have been looking for this but not found any hard and fast answers. A Guild roster was planned at one time but it looks like it was never done.

All I really want is a module that allows users to submit "character" profiles for an online game. Each needs to be able to submit more than one but this can be solved by multiple registration names so the module does not need to accomodate this.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good module to use (or hack - I have some skills there but would like a good base module) that would have some of the following:

    - Ability to "group" profiles - like by race of character
    - Ability for admin to put something on the profile that users can not remove or edit (approval notices) or even better yet they dont go "live" till they get admin approval
    - Something that allows me to designate required fields (especially with drop down choices) would be great
    - Ability for user to upload an image for their page or even music.

I almost envision these like mini user single web pages but with some guidelines set by administration.

When I was running the REALLY old postnuke (like multiple versions ago ;P ) I used the Everquest module and hacked the heck out of it to disconnect it from the online part and use just for character submitals but when I upgraded recently the hacked version will no longer function and the new one is too geared towards working with the online game community that to hack would be a huge undertaking for what little I want - so ANY suggestions on where to begin looking would be wonderful.
  • I you are building up a new site you might start with .8RC1 and then update when the other RCs and the final come. In .8 is an advanced version of the profile module. Else you can use pnProfile or advProfile - both can be found in the NOC. advprofile is part of the pnconcept project IIRC.

    This would require multiple registrations.

You can also use Pagesetter, which wouldn't require multiple registration but also a little work on templates ASO.

Planning was in the spring just as I started getting busy with my real job (Gardener) so available time became scarce. That being said the RosterMaster currently has basic (if not faulty) functionality through an architecture that utilizes pn.8's ObjectUtil::. So it's not that it was never done, it's that it's not yet done... although I knew I should have posted a news story regarding it's current progress, thanks for the kick.

RosterMaster will accomidate this, but it would be easier to import a full roster and then associate multiple character profiles to single user profiles. What game is it? Does it have a method of dumping in game rosters? Or an online roster?

Not when I'm done, but I'm sorry I can't promise anything quick. I'm hoping to be on the tail of pn.8's official release (with beta's before that).

The game is an online created RPG so it does not interface with anything else. icon_cool Just a lil 'ole writers forum game that I would like a nice character interface for.

Thanks both of you for the info - I will check all those out and see what best suits. And I look forward to seeing what comes out in the future too!
