categories home page and more categories:)  Bottom

  • After reading some other posts on this site i managed to add new categories and assign News to it... but since im VERY new to PN and knowledge is a dangerous thing...it created few more questions:).
    1) if i create a sub-category to NEWS called SUB and assign articles to it then remove check for front page does it remove it from just home page (NEWS module is my home page) or also from selection of that category from page? (if i have 2 articles in SUb and one on front page, if i go view that category should i see both or just one? )
    2) is there a way to switch article to be visiable by category BUT not on home page?
    3) using default theme SeaBreaze I see a broekn link to image at start of each article going to images/Topics...what should be there...and is that a setting i missed?

Please answer at your own risk...since more answers just produces more questions:).

    Sincerely,
    Mike

  • 3) You must verify in your Topics module that the Topic's images are fine, or reading the image properties may be an error in the theme... so, report it.

    1 and 2: i still don't know.

    Happy PostNuking!

  • well after some experimentation:
    1) front page flag seems to remove news COMPLETLY from both HomePage and Category page.
    2) so far I can't find a way....but if there isnt there should be:P
    3) while Im VERy new to PN (using stolen knoweldge - reading posts) it seems that there is a problem with the new category system. It tryes to work like Topic, and thus goes into the behaviour someone mentioned in other post for Topic (first value is a image). THis does behave slightly different depending on Theme but testing in 2 original themes (SeaBreese and Andreas8) both showed this behaviour with small variations.
  • I am also having issues testing News Module on .8

I installed the latest version and have been farting around for two days getting my theme ready for the release. While coming to a stopping point on the theme, I started installing Add-On modules.

News doesn't seem to work the way it used to, at least by my experience. Issues:

    1. When adding new categories, they do not appear in select on create new news article no matter the category configuration.
    2. Having installed and activated the TOpics Module, they do not appear as an optin to specify news article by topic.

I am extremely familiar with Postnuke and have been working with it since like .723 (I think) but .8 seems to be almost more complicated than .7xx and one would need to be VERY familiar with it to make things work. I thought one of the goals, along with shoring up templating/caching and standards compliance was to make PostNuke easier to use for the end user.

Those are my questions and thoughts.

I do like all of the 2.0ish icons. :)
  • The Categories module really needed a revision in the RC1, but Robert Gasch did an excellent work and now we have a very nice Categories module. You should download an available SVN snapshot (one of the latest was the 20071104) following ones are empty as consequence of the NOC problems.

Try it and you'll see the difference.
About the topics module, it's deprecated. You should use the Categories module to classify your items and your content... just there for backward compatibility.

take a look and tell us.

  • The latest snapshot I see that has anything in it is the May 21st 2007 snapshot. Am I missing something?
  • No, the snapshots page is broken as part of the ongoing work on the NOC. We hope to have normal service resumed shortly, but in the meantime you can check out the SVN using any SVN client.
