Changes not Showing .8-RC1  Bottom

  • WHAT A GREAT CMS!!!! A much better system then others I've tried, I love the interface and it's very intuitive. Thank you so very much for such a great product.

I had installed the latest Aug 17 Postnuke .8 RC1 Full on a PHP and MySQL 4 and to my chagrin found that it was not updating my changes in themes and blocks. It would take about an hour before the changes would update.

Today I have installed it again on another server with PHP and MySQL 5 and was delighted that it was working perfectly, until....

In the "Categories" module, I've changed the values to -1 in the modules (FAQ, News, Pages & Reviews) then proceeded to add a review. I then returned to the "Categories" to add a category for the FAQ module and it wouldn't let me create it. When choosing the "parent" category it would jump and erase my work. An hour after, it appeared in the "Categories List" I had about 4 entries which I deleted 3 of them and again my changes didn't register. An hour later the list showed correctly.

The same is true with the "Block Positions", "Block List" and "Themes" in the Control panel. I've also began getting "Invalid 'authkey'" errors and I don't know if these are relevant to the problem I'm having.

I am a newbie and I'm not sure if this is a setting/user problem or a bug. Has anyone else had this problem or have a solution?

    Any information would be appreciated.

  • 1 hr sounds like its a caching problem. What do you have for your cache settings in the THEME settings and the pnRender settings?

    NCM
    UHEweb
  • Do you have activated the cache?, look at that in your Admin panel...
by now i can't help you more...
    see you later!
and Welcome to the PostNuke community!

  • 3600 in the Theme Settings and uh, the cache wasn't turned on in pnRender. I've turned it on and it is set to 3600, however the same is happening. Of course I have to wait an hour to see if the cache is still on for pnRender. I'll let you know.

  • In development environments turn the cache off,
and "Force the recompilation of the templates" to see the Theme changes...
    that's the issue.

  • nestormateo,

This didn't seem to work. I'm not actually changing themes in my new installations, just trying to change the settings. I'm still waiting forever to see the changes made, hence why it's taking so long to reply here.

    I'm at a lost.

  • Hi Helene,

It does sound like a caching issue, please refer to

  • icon_razz Thank you everyone for all your help. You were all correct; the problem was the cache.

I've tried again and again to change the settings to no avail to a point where I didn't know what was set anymore (since I had to wait to see if my changes took). I finally made the changes in the database itself and lo and behold, it works great! I was then able to delete the compiled templates and delete the cache and my site works wonderfully.

I'm very happy now to be able to use the new PostNuke. Great Job!
