Initial Feedback on .8 RC1  Bottom

  • Excellent. A Massive improvement. Faster, more intuitive, nicer interface. Great work, thanks.

Have just installed RC1 today - had some trouble with the pre release system - but all seems good now.

The issues I have come across so far are:

    Legal Module
Typo in Important Usage note at bottom of page "provideded" should read provided.

It would also be good if the text within the module could be edited via the admin interface rather than by editing the template files - I am comfortable with doing this - but it would be quicker and easier that way.

    Profile Module
Massive improvement but came across some minor issues..

Contextual help on the formatting of list items would be useful to make the set-up process quick and easy for first time users of PN or users new to .8 version. Am having difficulty working out the syntax and there is no documentation for Profile module that I can find online. (not searche forums yet though, so excuse me if its been covered).

When editing or removing fields in the profile you need to double click the icon to process the action. A single click causes the icon to move to the right slightly but does not process the edit or delete request.

When a note is entered in a field it does not format correctly. To get it to format correctly I had to create the note with ?: ? preceding the note. Adding the colon followed by a space in the code would remove the need to do this.

That's all for now! The lack of problems makes it seem so much more worthwhile to keep a log of them and provide feedback.

Thanks for the excellent work - was waning in support for PN although I have used it since .726 (when I used to run SurfLondon.com) - but with .8 PN is certainly staying by my side for many years to come!
  • Thanks for the positive feedback. I've fixed the typo in the legal module. The logic behind having this text in the templates currently is that it would allow for the legal docs to be in multiple languages without needing another DB table to store the translations.

One of the main areas of work for the .9x series will be sorting out the mix of different approaches for handling ML sites - both for static translations (language packs) and dynamic data.

Looking at the profile module there used to be some on screen instructions but were seemingly removed. I've restored these instructions to the templates and will take a look at this to provide some clearer usage instructions. I'll add this to your other thread once i've worked things out myself.

  • Mark,

thanks for the info - helps clear a few things up and the formatting info you provided worked, thanks.

I have used .8 RC1 a bit more and have identified a more serious issue with the profiles module.

I created various custom fields and added the required defines in the lang file. I then added some users from the users administration options and it worked fine. However, I just tried viewing some of the users I added to check on some of the data and found that nothing I entered was still associated with the username it had been entered against. The only data which seemed to be remembered was default data i.e uname, password (I guess by remembered I mean written to the DB - but not sure if it has been written and is just not being ouput when you edit a profile.) Anyway I guess thats a fairly serious bug either way.

Another, more minor issue is that when a new user is registered you get this error "In Users module, cannot find template users_user_welcomeemail.htm" Just seems like a simple case of a missing template in the distribution. I resolved it by copying the corresponding API template, but thought it worth pointing out.

Will keep logging things as I go, and try to only post once something major is identified.

    All the best,
    Saif

  • Saif,

Are you sure you had that problem withe latest RC1 version? I had that once with a daily snapshot..

Please use the most recent version from SVN and check if this solves your problem. I committed a hotfix for such a problem yesterday.
