I am using 0.8
All I want to do is create a category so I can assign it to my news and faq articles.
However, there is NO documentation on the Categories Module.
What is a brutha to do?

Going a 'little' crazy. Does no one have any idea how to create a category?
I try to fill out the form and it never sets... no new category.

I could do with some direction with this too. I've got a few other things to use categories with now that topics have gone. I can see the advantages of the new category system but getting to to work for me is another thing. Over all .8 is very very good. I can't see me ever being able to hand .8 over to clients with categories the way they are. Probably I'll end up diving in and breaking it a few times, thats my method when all else fails. -

It looks a bug that I was sure i'd fixed already has crept into the RC1 release - not sure how as i'm 100% sure i'd fixed it. Anyway this prevents creation of categories below the categories created by the value addons.
To fix this go to administration->content->categories. Locate the news category and click on it to edit. Change the value box from 'News' to -1. Repeat for the other valueaddons categories.
This will then allow you to create categories below the news category which will then be used by the module.

When the news module is installed you'll have root category->Modules->News in your category tree.

Which version of News / Value Addons does this?
Because I installed ( but luckily haven't started using ) the News module.
I am visiting the downloads section and getting the newest Value Addons now... Hopefully the value addons located here are the newest...

Goodness... I can't wait for Postnuke to get to a more stable release.

I can't see how the category creation wouldn't work. You are running the News module from the current value addons release? Not an older one or the news module from .7x?
I've just noticed that the default categories you have suggest that your running a *very* outdated version of .8. Please make sure that you are testing only with either RC1 or a very recent, post RC1, snapshot. Categories like the proejct management were removed some time ago.

I ask because I have 'kinda' gone live with 0.8 once I heard that the tables were frozen.
So 'technically' I should be able to overwrite the folders / files with the newest version and fix this right?

Yes - it's something you can update. All you need to do is create the relevant entries in the category tree and the categories registry.
There have been a *few* small DB changes to fix cross-DB compatibility issues so you might want to take a look at the schema of a fresh install. The main change being the search module which didn't quite make MS3. Simply remove this module and re-install - there's no important data held by this one.
Note - as we've said anytime asked we cannot support sites build with non-stable development releases.
