If you copy/pasted your values from the old config.php to the new, then it won't work. The two files are of different formats, so you need to read through the new config.php and copy the values into the area reserved for the 'default' connection.
If you don't understand PHP well enough to do this then I recommend you wait until we have finalised the upgrade instructions so you have something more detailed to follow.
