Hi folks,
First of all, thanks a LOT for this release!!!
I've installed it from scratch (install.php) on my production server, without a problem.
FYI, it's running fine (a few hours of administration around) on a not recommended system ;) :
Apache 1.3.37 / PHP 4.4.4 / MySQL 4.0.18.
But the upgrading is not working...
The original installation is a PN 0.750 a bit customized, upgraded correctly to a PN 0.764. Then i'm trying to upgrade from this .764 to the latest 0.8 RC1 release.
When pointing to install.php, i get a bunch of PHP errors (about 300 lines) and at the bottom, i'm asked for my adminname / password. Whatever admin users i'm entering, i only got a "Failed to login to your site".
Bye.

The upgrade procedure for .76x is to run upgrade76.php not install.php. See upgrade.html in the docs directory.

Sorry Mark, i should have mentionned i've also previously edited the /config/config.php file with correct values, but with upgrade76.php i don't even get to the Login dialog in that case (only a bunch of PHP/SQL errors)...
That's why i tried the "classic" upgrade.php (which is only for upgrading from a 0.8MS release, correct?).
I can attach the error messages if you like?
Bye.

Yes - can you send me details of the errors you get and, if your willing too, a copy of your SQL dump so that I can run the upgrade myself. E-mail to markwest at postnuke dot com.

Forget it, apparently i didn't set the 'prefix' correctly in config.php (ns_ instead of the old nuke_ format).
That's getting rid of all the PHP / SQL errors.
But after a few pages of upgrading pages (no errors), just after asked for login (tried 2 admin users), i still get the "Failed to login to your site".
Other upgraders experiences from .764?

A few sites, including my own, have been through the upgrade process ok so far.
The error suggests that your not typing your PN admin username and password correctly.

Finaly, i've copied most of my "old" .764 modules to the new .8 modules directory, and the upgrade is now working.
But then my website "look" is all screwed whith unsinstalled blocks blocking the admin control / settings. I think i should disabled most of the "non-standards" modules / blocks in .764 before upgrading.
Sorry for all this, you can delete this post Mark, as it looks more like a newbie diary than a real question about .8... ;)

I disagree Mark, I had the same issue... upgrading my pn8 RC1 (preRelease QA version) to the Production release.. just ended up reinstalling with new DB- It was all just test garbage anyway.. I did not mistype my pass.. I did reset it to the default Admin/Password via the DB, to no avail. Thought it was probably a session error.. but decided to go to a clean start, anyway.
Edit: File upgrade, no scripts.

Dave,
I've not seen this problem on any test upgrades i've done. If someone can provide me with a DB that exhibits this issue then I can research it further. Thus far this issue hasn't been reported to the bug tracker.

I think your problem was something else Ammo.
Anyway, end of story, upgrade seems fine (all my users are here), i just deactivated most of the modules blocks in .764 before copying MySQL databases and upgrading.
Now i can't reach "Postnuke settings" (permission denied?), PNphpBB2 does not work, etc. but that's another story :) .

Yeah, tried to recreate the error.. cannot seem to. Don't worry, if anyone can break it, I can.

Remember that user permissions no longer exist in 0.8 - so if your admin access was granted through a user permission then you'll suddenly be demoted to a normal user after an upgrade.

Well, first you must set your site language to 'English' because is the only available language pack at the moment in the 0.8.
I don't remember how i did to upgrade, but i guess that you must copy+paste the config-info of the 0.764 /config.php file to the 0.8 /config/config.php file and your database connection will be available.
Try it and tell us!
