Hello! I've read the information in the Wiki and Knowledgebase and Developer documentation and have adjusted the settings in both pnRender and Xanthia as instructed but my templates refuse to cooperate. I'm using PN 0.7.6.4 and all the onboard attachments that came with it, plus a few extras.
It's really frustrating because I'm using a theme (xFlowerGarden - but adjusted in many ways) that has an error in its top menu and I can't fix it because I can't get my master.htm changes to stick. My development site is www.purplefriends.com/ntnl
I have a feeling the solution is very basic and I'll be slapping my forehead but for now I'm baffled. Thanks for any advice!

Are you trying to make changes using the Xanthia template editor? This does not really work well, and saves it to the database rather than changing the templates.
Changes should be made directly to the files...either using your hosts file editor, or uploading as you're doing.

I must still be missing something. I've checked and unchecked options, uploaded and reloaded and emptied caches and dumped compiled files and nothing seems to be working. Should I disable pnRender while I'm doing this? I've tried working in Xanthia and that is also not working. It looks like it saves the changes but they don't show up. I have not had the 'store in database' option checked at any time but it still seems to be ignoring changes, even with the settings you confirm and those listed in the Wiki and documentation areas.
So frustrating (which means it must be something very simple!)

Kathy,
To clarify, you've set:
Admin --> pnRender
CHECKED Compile check, CHECKED Force compilation, UNCHECKED Enable caching
Admin --> Xanthia --> Configure Xanthia
UNCHECKED Enable caching
CHECKED Check for updated version of templates
CHECKED Force templates recompilation
UNCHECKED Store templates in database
ALSO - most themes comes with a HOME template and a MASTER template - HOME is in the themes/THEMENAME/templates/modules directory.
So, if you're trying to edit the HOME (Index) page, use the HOME template. All others are using the MASTER default unless they are set up to use their own template as well (ie, module specific, or custom zones, etc.).

The directories to empty include:
pnTemp/pnRender_compiled
pnTemp/pnRender_cache
pnTemp/Xanthia_compiled
pnTemp/Xanthia_cache -

HOME template! That's it! Thank you thank you thank you! I had everything checked/unchecked as you noted but I never saw or read anything about the modules directory in the theme directory. Phew! You have made my day - thank you very much!
(now if only I can figure out what happened to my banner image...)

Glad you found what it was. Each theme is a little different, but they all should have a HOME for the index page, MASTER for others. Many have an ADMIN for the administration pages, and them sub-templates for the news - 1 for articles, 1 for news list on index page.
