Undocumented PHP memory requirements  Bottom

  • Hi,

I installed 0.8 on xampp a number of times and noticed I needed to bump the (default) PHP memory limit from 8Mb to 16Mb to get the installer working. This could be a deal-breaker for noobs! Worse still: the crash leaves the install in a partially finished and unrecoverable state.

I recall similar issues in the past with older PN versions at my web host. Are these requirements documented somewhere? I checked the user guide, but it only states disk requirements.

IMO, this requirement should be well documented so nobody ends up crashing the installer!

    Regards,
    Dennis

  • The .8 codebase is still being optimised. I'd hope that we're able to reduce the memory usage so that we come well within the 8M default for a basic site. Different PHP versions seem to have slightly different overheads themselves making this slightly harder to achieve across all possible versions and platforms.

Once we know the end results this will be added to the requirements.
