I have been a customer of bluehost.com for over a year now and they simply the best as far as siteup time, speed, and customer support.

    My Work.....

  • I've used zenutech.com for several years now for hosting never had a problem.

I can strongly advise against hostnuke as they are the original host I had then they pulled the plug on my site with no warning (said there was a red flag in the system due to resource usage). So I went to zenutech.com and never had a problem since and was cheaper besides.
  • DreamHost .. host unlimited domains, unlimited email accounts, unlimited databases, your bandwidth and storage grow every month, ssh, sftp, rsync, multiple accounts/logins/permissions .. nothing comes close in value. imo ;)
  • InvalidResponse

I used them for a year and they suck big time. Yes they offer everything, but it is delivered very, very slowly. When I moved my site there, I left a mirror on the old server - a lot of the time the dreamhost site was taking in excess of 5-6 seconds just to finish executing the serverside stuff, every time I contacted them about this, things would get better for a few days and then go back to crap. With there slow data transfer you will never even come close to using the resources they offer anyway. I would avoid them like the plague (if they are so good why isn't everyone using them? this is the question to ask...)

The best I have ever had (and what I have now) is the semi dedicated plan from http://www.jaguarpc.com/ (and no I am not an affiliate, just a fan).

  • Sadly I must also agree with the above statements regarding DreamHost. I convinced a friend to move to DreamHost some 6 months ago and have since then purchased the web space from them as it turned out to be a terrible recommendation. They sure do offer a lot and the price is good... but no ones going to put up with that kind of speed (or lack thereof). Maybe their dedicated servers are better, but not what I'm currently looking for.

So I too am looking for a new good web host to recommend to people, thanks for the suggestions so far.

  • If you need a dedicated server or VPS, I HIGHLY recommend PowerVPS. I'm a VERY satisfied customer.

  • ..looks great :) ..though $30 a month would probably "inspire" me to go back to hosting myself. I'm happy with dreamhost. I like the amount of control they give me.. the uptime can "iffy", yeah the resources are limited and if I required better of either, I would be spending more..
  • yeah I know it's steep (well not really, one unit sale covers the month...), but in the end I got sick of shared hosting - they all promise this and that, but you never hear anything about the speed with which your scripts will execute - and I have noticed over the years that the ones offering bloated resources seem perform badly in this area, they seem to take advantage of the fact that not many users really know or think about it.

What is the average time someone will wait for a page to come up these days before giving up? 4, 5 seconds? Well if your page is taking that long to render you are up shit creek - doesn't matter how fast the clients connection is they aren't gonna get anything until the script has executed.

  • I have used Hostgator.com since the fall of last year. It's been very good and very fast.

However, from what I hear, their shared hosting wouldn't be good for a HUGE trafic site.
