AuthModules  Bottom

  • Hi,
so, i tinkered around with the OpenID stuff the other night and really wanted to make it an authmod, but since it requires off-site authentication, it wouldn't quite fit the mold.. then there's the issue of the user name (ie: mrfancypantsrules.myopenid.com) exceeding the 25 character limit in the users table .. I just wanted to get some feedback as to the "best" way of going about it without making too much of a mess.. i didn't think i'd want to spend much mind on it, but if it can earn the PN project $5k, then I'd like to put some time into making it happen.. If maybe Mark or another of the core devs can look at what has already been done, then I'll put some more time into it and register the project to the NOC.

    thanks

PS: if you need a direct link, let me know.
  • Well firstly it sounds like the users database table needs the username field to be upped to 255 characters - we can then set the username length limit in the admin.

Secondly, doesn't the AuthLDAP auth mod use 'off site' authentication? Could you follow a similar route to the LDAP mod with OpenID?

  • ..yeah, the column length is understandable.. there's also some validation in the login routine to the same effect. LDAP just authenticates against a server (like an intranet employee directory), the AuthLDAP doesn't redirect you away..

It can be easily hacked up to work, but I prefer it done up to standards.. so the more input the better. thanks Simon :)
