I push PostNuke on every custom job I do, I also recommend it for anyone asking.
I still think we need to target the Gamer set with more modules though, they are one of the biggest userbases for Content Management Systems and word of mouth spreads like wildfire in that demographic.

It's my experience, as a business person, gamers don't have 'budgets' but I could be wrong. However, if it is a viable market then third party module devs and designers should be interested in creating commercial modules/themes for the segment.
But I don't want to get off track -- as a project we should do more to support our first line partners, i.e., mod devs, theme designers, hosting providers, etc. They are the ones who will reach out for customers to sell their services/support/designs/modules. Then as a project we grow because more people are getting involved, giving back, and supporting the project through time and/or money.
What can the project do to support first line partners? And as a result of this support they spread the word/market PN -- creating buzz -- helping grow the project for everyone.
In my humble opinion, this is one of the reasons Joomla has grown -- because those who are making their living developing for the web can see how they can make money through using the software. How can the project support our users so PN is a tool they can use to increase their bottom line.

You guys ('n gals) might be on to something. I don't particularly like the name PostNuke either (love the product though!), however well it applies to what happened in the past. I say let bygones be bygones and leave the PHPNuke legacy behind.
To me the word Nuke is associated in a nasty way with Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Quick and painful, with a big mess left behind and 50 years of pain and suffering. It was a hard sell on the church site I built some years ago, obviously no visible credits were allowed.
If you want to go this route I'd wait for 0.8 and re-brand it "something else" v1.0. We all know it's more than worth that designation! The forums are rife with posts from potential users claiming they won't buy into a product with a version number < 1.
Maybe a naming contest would be in order. It would certainly generate some publicity.

If postnuke had modules similar to PHP-nuke's "shoutbox" or "ofxclanlist", I think more gamers would go for it over using PHP-nuke with its security holes.
There also needs to be some more free dark/gaming themes like there are for PHP-nuke. With PN, almost every free theme tends to be light colored. While such themes would be good for a personal or business site, they often wouldn't work for gaming sites.

Small niche?
lol... ok. I suppose the thousands of dollars in themes I do a month for PHPNuke gamers is a small niche.
I try like hell to push them all to use PostNuke but the modules just aren't there.
I know of 2 or 3 other designers that sell MORE than I do to the so called "small niche" gamers using PHPNuke.
no biggie, I'll just keep doin what I'm doin.

Wow, congrats on doing such great business in this segment. This is a bit off-topic but something that might encourage others to become more interested in meeting the needs of this market. Do you do the theming thing full-time? Is your business solely from themes or do you charge for customization? What modules are needed to make the users in this niche interested in using PN? Who is the person creating the sites with PHPNuke and why? You use WOW images in your themes? Do you license them from Blizzard? If so how much do they charge? If not then are you concerned about copyright?
As I said before if there is money to be made with modules/themes then the needs of that segment of the market will be met, I'm curious to why more module devs haven't created the the needed mods.
BTW: my son is an avid gamer, I know the money spent in the segment and it is lucrative. I just don't have an interest -- but am excited to see others who are supporting this community of users and making money.

My prices are right on the site, most of it comes from the 19.95 themes.
I do a few customs a month and then usually around 3 to 4 PHPNuke installs a month for a small fee as well.
This is part time work and it is mostly teen to 20 somethings that are doing the purchasing.
I honestly believe the problem with the module creators is pricing the product too high for the market. No one is going to pay xxx.xx for a module when someone else has something close enough to what they want for xx.xx or free, even if they have to use PHPNuke.
I constantly rant about the security of PostNuke vs the others but that ends up secondary to customers due to the 10 to 1 ratio of modules available between the two.
As I type this I have two FTP uploads going for customers paying for PHPNuke installs that I could not convince to go with PostNuke due to the modules they are going to use.
We have been over this too many times now Vanessa and I still feel like I am banging my head against the wall..

I'm done with it too -- I was just trying to get a better idea from you. As I said I am not interested in the 'gaming' market and I'm not creating modules in this area. I was just trying to spark an interest for others. I'm done banging my head too but as far as I can remember I've never discussed this with you or anyone else in the past so forgive me for asking and being interested.

No no.. sorry if you got that impression, it wasn't you per se that I have discussed this with, just the community in general. I just don't like to see the "small niche" gaming community get overlooked because people think they aren't willing to spend money on sites.
I still recommend and USE PostNuke on any site I have the choice on.

The team doesn't have to sell Postnuke, as we don't earn money with it. That's your job. We aim at people like you. You are the target group of Postnuke. The multipliers, coders, designers ASO.
