shout boxes  Bottom

  • ive just converted to 0.7.6.4 from phpnuke where we had a 'shout box' on the site, is there something similar to this for PN?
also where is the best place to go for modules and stuff? ive already got a forum but the selection of core blocks is so boring and mundane. and i havent got as far as learning to code anything myself, can someone suggest some good sites?
  • The only shoutbox for PN that I know of is Tagit which you can get from http://www.programmingsource.net/www/index.php?module=News&func=main

However, I doubt you will find it as fancy as "shoutbox" for phpnuke as guests can't even choose their own nickname etc.

I use a non postnuke shoutbox on my site. While it's not intergrated with PN (except for being displayed in a block) it has alot of features and is easy to admin. You can get it from. http://www.j-fx.ws/tagbox

I did modify my own copy in several ways to go with my gaming site. If you want to take a look, just PM me.

As far as other modules, many can be found here: http://community.postnuke.com/module-Database-main-tid-3.htm

  • thnx thug, my sites a gaming site also www.thefwt.com its still in the infant stages. our old one had to be deleted and that was made by someone with way more experience than me lol. i'll show u my site if you show me yours lol.
that tag box looks good, would it be easy to integrate it into my site?
  • Hello: I PM'ed with a link to my shoutbox. It's an example of how the box can be customized a bit.

Note: The incoming PM icon on this site should be a small icon on the top navagation bar towards the right.

The shoutbox is very easy to get up and running.

First, download a copy of the tagbox and then find the "config.php" and open it. You will want to change the admin password. You can also change any other options you see listed. Save the changes and upload the whole tagbox folder to your site.

Go to your site and then admin panel->system->blocks->add new block->core/html.

In that block, put the iframe link which is listed in the tagbox readme and point it to the right location. You might also need to CHMOD the db.txt in the tagbox folder to 666.

    That's about it.
