The new login system  Bottom

  • In the news about the OpenID bounty, I read about the new login system. Will this make bridging easier? I want to use Simple Machines as a forum (a really great system that is). Any chance to see a bridge between Postnuke and SMF?
  • A bridge between PN and SMF would be great.

  • You can use the custom auth modules to authenticate against external sources, so you could potentially authenticate against a SMF userbase, however how well that would work I don't know. There would be obstacles to overcome. It's primarily designed for Active Directory/LDAP type implementations, but is fully extensible to other environments.

  • What is this LDAP stuff good for in PN? Wikipedia didn't help me to understand...
  • LDAP is a method of integrating with a corporate directory service so won't be useful to a lot of PN users. Examples of directory services are Novell eDirectory (formally NDS) and Microsoft Active Directory. LDAP (Lightweight directory access protocol) is a standard method for accessing a directory service.

Amongst other things directory services hold user accounts. So using the LDAP module allows PN to integrate with existing systems rather than needing separate accounts creating.

Someone with knowledge of both SMF and PN could write an authentication module to allow PN to utilize SMF accounts.

Even more great would be bridge between Zikula and SMF. Or if someone has been able to make older bridges between PN and SMF to work with zikula, any hints would be great!

We were talking about PostNuke .8, that is Zikula.

  • Oh!

I had on some old 0.7something a bridge between PN and smf, so that won't work in .8. Too bad.

Anyways, I am missing that option as well, cos my SMF install is old as hell, and the users of that will most deffinetly get pimples out of rage, if I suggest that we change it to something else.

It's however not important, cos they don't even know about my idea, about making it part of something bigger, and so nobody else is wating anything. Just wanted to say something about the issue, so i can every now and then track the issue and check if here is some good news.

  • You can find the code here:
    http://community.zikula.org/module-Forum-viewtopic-topic-53332-highlight-smf.htm
It should be exactly the same bridge.

Due to a forum bug you can see the posts only quoting them (you don't have to reply... just click on the quote link and you'll find the post in the quick reply textarea)
