Looking over
PostNuke, I'm setting up a website for my wife and I'm interested in adding some modules for the following:
SMS message sending - allow sending of messages to users through standard SMS protocols. A system to control what can be sent, when it can be sent, who configures it, etc. Expanding eventually to allow the use of SMS bots to request information from a database maintained by the admins.
AIM Bot: See SMS messaging, but using AOL's service instead.
Google Advertising:
Provide a central place to define the google id along with the various advert and google functions, and then be able to insert them as blocks into content. Set up the system such that if an admin is viewing the web page, in place of google adverts have placeholder blocks specifying "google ad here" or somesuch so that false clicks are not mistakenly performed by the admins. Also I need to hack in some javascript similiar to Google's preview script to allow users of the system to report offensive and inappropriate ads so the admins can review them, and if they agree then add them to their block list on google(as a personal website, my goal is to get enough income to pay for the site, about 10$/month. From what my wife tells me, other sites she uses tend to display inappropriate ads for the discussion. For example, discussions about feeding a baby on a breastfeeding support forum trigger ads for formula. From a computer standpoint, this makes sense as feed+baby=formula. From a forum participant standpoint, it is offensive to have ads shoved in your face about formula when your trying to avoid it. From a forum owner standpoint, it is a waste of time to have that ad show up as no one will click on it, I'd rather have fewer RELEVANT ads, than more ads offensive to the participants)
I'm choosing
PostNuke because I find
PostNuke to work logically and the way I expect. And with
Openstar I can get a base set of modules to build on. Other CMR's seem a bit more obtuse to deal with.
I don't want to re-invent the wheel here if others have already done these things, and the search function for
PostNuke modules does not seem to be very functional at the moment(and google's search keep referring to pages from the previous module database which don't exist). So I figured I'd ask. Also, since this is a personal project, my priority list can be influenced by encouragement for particular functions.
Also since it's a personal project, this may never come to fruition, but I'm crossing my fingers that SWMBO will encourage items to be completed and provide the needed incentive.
