Getting prepared for .8  Bottom

  • Hi,

As a PN user who keeps his site up to date, I am wondering if there is any preparatory work that I can complete looking forward to .8's release.

For example, port non-API compliant modules to API compliant modules, this will mean modules such as pnCPG coppermine to Mediashare.

I still think very much of how the upgrade path for .8 will be, just noticing the lasrge amout of changes thus far in .8. it is going to be a challenge, but one with enough preparation should be smooth.

A nice example would also be setting up your theme in advance for the new version of Xanthia, or changing your present theme to one that will be supported in new Xanthia.

How about the Categories system? If I presently use Categories in 763, how will I be affected with the drastic change in Categories in .8?

    Just some mad ramblings.

  • For one, individual permissions will be deprecated. Those should be changed to group permissions. Which should be easier, instead of managing two permission sets.

Asfaras the theme goes, switching it to .800 ready should not be that hard... Mark West has even set up a tutorial for changing a generic theme to a .8 theme in the Wiki. So porting your .7x theme to .8 should be a snap.

Set up a second test site with all of your modules using the MS2 release and see what need to be done. You have time, as the RCs haven't even been released yet.

Just some of my ramblings as well.

    Not depreciated, non existent :)

The most important thing, from my perspective (which doesn't apply to you, since you're up to date), is to keep your installation up to date with the latest version of PostNuke. It's a lot easier to go from .760 to .8 because you're already some of the way there. Making the switch from .750 or earlier will be a much harder job.
