I?ve used joomla and mambo for years and they are good CMS systems and they have so many modules and themes available and thousands of users and massive support.
But I?m here at postnuke posting!
The reason is I am actually more comfortable with postnuke after 1 days exposure than years of exposure with joomla.
Everything about postnuke is logical and in the right place and sort of makes sense.
That?s down to the design and the standards of coding behind the scenes.
So I take my hat of to all involved
Postnuke is great
thank you

Thanks for the positive feedback! :D
(though I've always known we're better than Joomla ;))

HammerHead do you think the PN community is growing, shrinking or staying the same? This site is always busy but there doesn't seem to be as much 3rd party modules being released lately. Seems most of them were developed 2002-2005? -

I'm no expert, but I would surmise that many are awaiting the release of 0.8 or are currently working with the 0.8 MS2 release in preparation. -

Most module developers that I talk to are now focusing their efforts on developing modules for .8. Developers realise the huge advances .8 brings and like to take advantage of this. Unfortunately, that has resulted in a slowing of development for .7x, but in many ways I don't see that as a bad thing.

I have the impression that the user community is rather stagnant at the moment due to the massive share of newbies joomla and wordpress are taking, since they are the most marketed oss CMS out there.
PN Module development also seems to be decreasing except for those modules close to the core dev team (ie. pnForum, MultiHook, Pagesetter,...).
But that is a good thing. With PN.8 a lot of coding standards for PN change compared to PN.7xx and will become a lot more efficient to code for.
The effect will be that we can freshly launch into a new .8 era without leaving thousands of developers and modules behind. We will have a sleek and efficient core and if anything is missing for a particular need it can be easily coded.
This will be an ideal condition to go out and get new developers involved. A community can only grow when there is some incentive to participate. And I think the (not to heavy) lack of modules will help us getting more developers when the time is right.
If we already had almost all modules, we would only be able to get a lot of downloads, but no new involvement of more developers. That is why I think the degree of professionality of the PN.800 release will have a huge impact on the future growth of the PN community.
If .8 gives developers exactly what they need it will be the winner, but if it will be severly lacking other CMS that have more developers right now might eventually catch up and leave PN behind (or they'll just fork PN.8, rename it to Joomla 2.0 and continue from there
).
Happy coding,

I think the number one reason why PN has not grown (as far as number of users) as much as it could, is because of its lack of a quality article publishing module. At least this is the feedback i get from clients and of course myself. But I think that could really change once .8 is out. I know i have a project on the burner for a new publisher, but we will see.
Besides that though, PN rocks! -

The lack of templates is the main thing. In my view that is what needs addressing first
The template showcase thing (I think you have a version for postnuke I?ve seen on a few sites postnuke sites) is in my opinion the number one selling point of joomla/mambo
That should be in the core and have a good number of free base templates available
What that does is allow ?what if? on the site design ? developers can even give it to clients and let them choose what they want their website to look like.
It?s essential.
How to get template developers?
I would go for the little web developers just about every other site you see is a web developer site, they look great, they conform to standards, there is no doubt these individuals have the skill and talent. But no one goes to their sites. Look on their forums and 10 posts, number of visitors online 1 guest (you)
Support these people give them what they want (media exposure) good quality backlinks, bring them in, give them incentives, awards, credits etc.
They'll even display their Authorised accredited postnuke developer status badge or whatever on their sites and they?ll work their socks off.
There seems to be a german infulence in postnuke (I am new)
if so play to your strengths
I don't know the german language but I do know bebel fish =)
Post nuke the BMW of CMS
Flexibel durch Technik
Flexible through Technology I think that means.

The lack of templates is the main thing.
My opinion is functional gamer support modules need to developed. Gamer communities use CMSs, there is no doubt. But PN lacks these these things. There are no decent plugins for TeamSpeak, Ventrilo, Teamwarfare league stats, plugins for World of Warcraft loot(?) management, game/practice/match schedulers, game statitics hooks for profiles... I can go on... and of course themes for all these. Of course Mars/M(ike)Maynard does make quite a few quality ones... there are not scores of them, no.
Solutions like phpBB and PHPNuke do have these things widely available.

Yes and No. Sure, if you go to pnSetup.com (my site that i have linked/posted) it is just a playground for me to do some PostNuke related stuff. But is you goto AmmoDumpFanClub.org, you would see the site bustling with thousands of women, young and old
, though it maybe a PN site, it has nothing todo with PostNuke. I would never expect pnSetup.com to have a community, the community is here at community.postnuke.com.

Authorized? That would be quite the discussion...
