I use pnphpbb2 for my forum and use the pnphpbb2 PM system. I do not use the postnuke PM system because it does not send any notification via email that a user has a PM. If postnuke would send an email to users to notify them of a PM I would use the postnuke PM system. Is there away to have postnuke send an email when a user has a PM? If not, is that possible in a future software rev?

Yes, It does, but, of course, it's necessary have email options well configurated on Admin - Settings.
