Before i download it and play with it I had a few questions. Ive seen Pagesetter recommended to submit stories, poems, and recipes. and was reading up on how you can set group permissions on who could submit and edit which is pretty dandy if you ask me. But what I want to know is if this would suit my needs.
I have the old school Lyrics module in which user submits lyrics admin approves and lyrics are listed
Check out my non-live test site
http://www.punknska.com/Lyrics.htm
I pretty much want something that does the same except I can sort the lyrics by artist or song and be able to use the pagerabc plugin. And of course if all this is possible it is also cool that you can place an EZComments hook to allow members to siscuss the lyrics.
I dunno if page setter is what im looking for please people who have used it lend me some advice.

Well, I see no one responded.
Pagesetter is one of those modules which has considerable promise, but a very steep learning curve. I'm not a programmer, so my knowledge is considerably less than many here. I've tried using Pagesetter, but the problem I was trying to solve (job listings) was having problems. I've requested help here and at the main site for Pagesetter numerous times without a single response. Since I couldn't get it to operate reliably for my use, I don't use it.
I know it's a very powerful and capable module. But without an easier user interface, better documentation, or at the very least, support in the module's forums I just don't see it gaining wide use. I'm sure those with a greater understanding of programming than I have (essentially zero!) would find the module very helpful.

I said it before... no postnuke-module has a more detailed documentation than Pagesetter
-> http://www.elfisk.dk/modules/pagesetter/docs/manual/PagesetterManual.html
I am no programmer and managed to handle Pagesetter.
You probably start best by modifying an existing "publication type", for example the news-replacement which is shipped whith Pagesetter.

Its true that Pagesetter is more complex than most PN modules. I think that is par for the course though - the module is incredibly flexible and thus it follows naturally that it would be more complex.
There are a few main things to understand about the module before you start out:
- Although there are some pre-defined publication types, for the most part you define the structure of the document you want Pagesetter to store for you. Unlike PN-News which has a set of fields that you fill out, with Pagesetter you have to take a step back and first tell it what fields belong in your publication.
- Next, each publication type has more than a few templates that make it work. Pagesetter can generate some blank ones for you to get you started, they show up in modules/pagesetter/pntemplates and are named after your publication.
- Once you create a publication, define its fields, and create/edit its templates then you are ready to create an instance of you publication.
Pagesetter does have great documentation, but it does not break things down like that and try to simplify the concepts for you. However, if you ever have a question about a template variable, or how to link to a document, then the documentation will be a big help to you.
Good luck you guys! -

I'd second leason's comments (and I sure wish I'd seen his nice summary before I started trying to get a handle on PS).
PS has excellent doc*mentation for many of the more complex pieces, but it really doesn't do a good job of helping someone get the overall picture and plan/execute a publication type. There are too many places where the information *is* in the doc*mentation - but spread around in different places.
I'm not a PS master, but have several projects I'm doing with it and am recording my steps (and mis-steps) and have roughed out a 'PS for dummies' (like me) which I hope to have ready to post in the next week or two.
(There, now I said it out loud, I'm committed....)
First step I would do with PS is install it in a local PN sandbox where you can play and tweak and fiddle all you want without any concern about breaking anything real. Made all the difference in the world for me.
Peter
(Edit: the autolinks is great, except when it is wrong. I had to tweak doc*mentation to prevent it from linking to the documentation here - which is really misleading when talking about docs for PS.)
