pnForum Nightmare  Bottom

  • I wish I could tell you what happened, so you can help me. :)

I did an upgrade to PN7.62 and it went fine. Then I tried to upgrade PNFOrum to 2.6 and it died. I was unable to resote it to 2.5 so I tried 2.7 and i got a hybrid working, but for some members it didn't work at all. It was up like this for a week. Last night i tried to put it back to normal, but my SQL DUMP was of this hybrid. When I go back, and try my old PNForum, i get an "internal server error", when i try in install 2.6 or 2.7, i get nothing or my forums are missing...

SO what i need, is to be able to get a 2.6 or 2.7 install working, and learn how to merge info from my SQL dump into this i think...

Not sure... i need someone who has more common sense that i do and knows how to mess with this data, because i lost the original dump from a week ago. If i can't restore this, i've lost 6 months of posts... icon_confused

  • So you try to ran a mixed version and are wondering why this doesn't work?
But you know that there is a modules module that is capable of triggering the update functions of postnuke modules?
This should seamless update tables from one module version to the new versions (not the other way around!)
  • Yeah - I totally screwed up... I thought the upgrade worked. I think i have some updates and some not, some correct files and some not. So I tried to port back the old version which made everything worse and now i've basically got nothing.

I have a 7.62 working version of everything but PNForum. Which i totally messed up. I have an SQL Dump from 9/1/06 which was one version of PNForum, but i don't know which version. Then i have a dump from 9/4/06 which was the hybred version.

I need to know if it is possible to fix it. I tried installing PNForum2.5 with .762 and got errors, tried pnForum2.6 with .762 and got errors. So I dont know what to do..
  • Ok - here's what I got. Sorry for replying to myself, i didn't see the edit.

I did an install of PN7.6.2 and then I copied the files from the latest SYN for PNFourm into my site. It is up and running, and then I did an upgrade to PNForum2.7. This time it worked. Syncd posts and stuff. It is all good.

Only - In the backend i can't edit forums. In the posts, i don't have an option to Edit Or Quote like I see on this board. Where are these features?

  • I'm sorry to read you suffering, but this wild copy thing is a no-no. I think you should install a old backup of your database (all tables that belong to postnuke and its modules)
Then you can copy the new source files to the server, run the apropriate upgrade steps and regenerate the module list+update the modules that need it.
"Normally" this should do the trick. If not, better start from scratch. And write in big letters on your monitor:
"Don't mix sourcecode of different versions and don't try to import data that doesn't belong to the installed version"
    I hope you have a 21" monitor (or a small font icon_wink
