Where does the 'errormsg' session var display?

I'm working on a module, and I'm trying to use pnSessionSetVar('errormsg',"An error occured") to display errors. However, none of my error messages show up, even when I purposely set them.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I have included in my pnrender template, but there doesn't seem to be a corresponding call for an errormsg.

will report either a status message, or an error message if it exists. If both exist, it will return the error message.
